There was this young man who found a little black book one night. He opens the book and it has some names in the book, people that he knows, famous black people, like Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. etc. So he asks around about this book, to his friends and family, and people don’t know what to tell him about it. So he takes it to someone that he knows, that knows about ancient African spiritual practices, and he instantly tells him that this book is enchanted with some sort of black magic, and that he has heard of these type of books before, and that he has heard that these type of books grant special powers to who ever finds it. So the wise old man goes on to say that the other names that appear in the book were previous owners of the book and by writing your name in this book, you will be granted what it is that you desire the most. So the young man decides to write his name in the book since he is now the owner of the book and see what he is granted.
He goes on about his life and does his regular activities, and a few days later he gets a notice in the mail from the IRS that says that he has overpaid taxes in the amount of $20,000 and he will get a check for that amount. So he goes back to the old wise man and wants to know if there is a way to know whether or not this little magical book was responsible. The old man tells him, of course it is, this is what you desired most, money. The book more than likely granted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. his status, as a civil rights leader, and Micheal Jordan his success in sports, and Booker T. Washington his success in education, as these are other names found in this book. The young man felt blessed and happy and yet he still had so many more questions, does the book grant more things? Or do I just get this one check? Can I keep the book? Do I get to pass the book down to my kids? His mind is just racing with questions and at that moment he gets hit by one question. What is the downside to this? The older man looks at him and tells him that he was waiting for that question, and then he says that when you accept your gift you are now on the radar of the people who are enemies of this book. So you will get powerful enemies now. The young man thought about the downside of the situation and said that he would take his chances.
He did begin to think though, is this little black book responsible for 2pac dying young? Or MLK being killed? Or when any black person who becomes super successful and has a huge scandal? He decides in order to try to keep his life from being affected by the downside too much, he will not let the money change him and will live his life as closely to normal as he can to try to keep from having any adverse effects from it. He keeps going to work, he does not buy anything super fancy and does not tell many people about his experience with the book. In the back of his mind though, he could not help but wonder, are the enemies of this book and its power waiting around the corner? He figures that all he can do is keep his guard up, and continue to live his life and try to make the little black book proud and make it happy that it chose him to carry on the legacy.
