The Baby Deal

Chapter 1: Just another day at the office.

By Mackenzie101Published 4 years ago 22 min read

Blair is an aspiring 25 year old woman who had to drop out of college due to her mother's declining health. She was in the middle of nursing courses when her mother got diagnosed with cancer. Her parents split when she was 16 and still in highschool, so her father comes around whenever he feels it's convenient for him.

Blair can still see he cares, but their relationship just didn't work. She took a job at Dresher Inc. one of the biggest companies in the city. They specialize in all sorts of items, from clothes to cars. Her best friend put in a good word for her and by some miracle, they hired her. She thought this would only be a year or two thing until she got back on her feet, but now she's entering year 3 at Dresher Inc.

Her boss is the son of the company, Damian Dresher. He takes himself way too seriously and she constantly sees women going in and coming out of his office, clearly not clients. He's never so much as taken a second look at her, but she could care less. She has a boyfriend. Like Blair would ever want that playboy douchebag.....but he's the douche bag that gives her the checks to pay her bills with.

What if he offered her a way out? A way to go back to college without having to worry about income? Everything comes at a price though. Is it a price she's willing to pay?

Blair rolled over in bed, groaning at the sound of her alarm on her phone, blaring.

'Ugh....why can't I just win a million dollars or something? I've been getting up for this job for 3 years now. I honestly thought I'd be back in school by now, or graduated.' She sat up, running a hand through her bed-head dirty blonde hair, and rolled out of bed and sighed to herself.

'Well, better get up and start the day with breakfast.'

She headed down the hall and into her kitchen. Her apartment is nice, but she'd rather stop throwing her money away on rent and have her own house.

Blair started going through her fridge for anything.

"Hmmm....nothing."

Blair goes through the cabinets and pantry next.

"Nada here too. Damn, gonna have to stop somewhere real quick on my way."

She headed back to her room to get dressed for work. She picks a grey pencil skirt with a matching jacket, black blouse under that, black panty hose and black pumps.

"Alright, hope I can make it to get a bite and coffee and not be late to work."

She made her way quickly out the door, making sure to lock it. and headed for the parking lot. She made it to her SUV. It's an older 2000's model. 'It's not a sports car or anything, but I'm happy I have this. Better than nothing!'

She drove down the road for a while, checking all of the drive-through breakfast spots on the way into the city.

'Damn! Even McDonald's and Starbucks is wrapped around the building! Guess I'm not getting any breakfast or coffee this morning. This day is gonna suck!'

Blair decides to drive on in to the office, hungry and very tired. She arrived at work with 10 minutes to spare. She walked in to the entryway and went to the elevator. To her dismay, the elevator didn't work. 'Shit! And my desk is on the 12th floor! I'll never make it in time!'

Blair then decided to call out and leave. 'I haven't had a day off in a long while. I'll just use this as an opportunity.' She pulls out her phone and called up the other secretary/receptionist who sits across from her.

It rang a couple of times before she picked up.

"Good morning, Dresher Inc., this is Melody. How may I direct your call?"

Melody is her best friend incidentally, and the one who helped her land this job.

"Hey Mel, I'm kinda stuck down here. The elevators aren't working and I'm not going to make it anyway. I'm gonna go ahead and call out."

She lowered her voice to almost a whisper.

"The hell you are! Didn't you read that email the boss sent out a couple of days ago? They're going to fire anyone who takes off during this busy month, unless you are truly sick. That includes us!"

Blair smiles. "Oh....I can fake sick...."

"Didn't you walk in through the front? Cameras, remember? They fired Victoria last week for pulling that shit! They're crazy up here! They WILL check the cameras! Just get up here as quick as you can!"

She hung up on her. Blair sighed and shook her head.

'Damn it, she's right. I gotta make it up there, no matter how late I am.' She decided to take the stairs, moving as fast as she could in heels.

'They INSIST we all wear heels. I hope I don't trip and kill myself. Honestly, heels are a manmade invention to make it harder for women to run away.'

Blair quickly, but cautiously, made her way up the stairs as best she could. She absolutely hated taking the stairs in heels. She looked down at her watch.

'Great....already 8 minutes late!'

She tries to move a little faster on the steps. Trying to make it up there as fast as she could. She stopped on the steps and took off her heels and started skipping steps and trying to run up the stairs now. She finally reached the top and put her heels back on before anyone noticed.

She quickly walked through, trying to not be rude but still moving quickly towards her desk, past the "morning people". Blair plastered on a fake smile.

"Sorry, I'm late. Gotta run. Talk to you later!"

She noticed some nod in understanding and some give her a pissed off look when she didn't give a proper hello back.

'Ugh....early mornings should be considered cruel and unusual punishment. I don't see how these morning people can be so cheerful.' She thought to herself.

She finally make it to her desk and logs in. She clocked in as fast as she could with a sigh.

'Ugh...25 minutes late. I feel awesome...'

She sat down in her chair and sighed, shaking her head and staring down at her desk.

Suddenly, a coffee and a muffin appeared before her. Blair looked up to see the other receptionist looking at her, smiling. Melody is a slender woman of African decent. She has her hair made into braids. She's also wearing a red business suite.

"Thought you maybe didn't have breakfast and coffee, again." Melody states. Blair reaches out for the coffee first.

"Oh Mel, you know me all too well."

Melody is her long time best friend. She was the one who recommended Blair for the 2nd assistant position when she applied. She sits in the same desk across from Blair. They both line the way to the office of the owner's son.

"Forgot to go to the store again?" Melody says with a slight sideways smile.

Blair nodded in slight embarrassment.

"Yeah....."

"You need to get that man of yours to move in and help take care of you."

Blair laughed after taking another sip of her coffee.

"Should I be the one that proposes to him too? Ring and all? Complete with getting down on one knee in front of millions of people?"

Blair laughed.

"You've got a screw or two loose." Blair replied.

"You've known this for a while. Besides, if Joseph doesn't propose soon, I'm going to have to! These eggs ain't gonna be around for forever! He needs to hurry up with it! Put it a ring on it!" Melody says, with gusto.

Blair has known for a number of years that Melody had really wanted to start a family with her boyfriend of 8 years. He just hasn't gotten around to it and she's getting a bit impatient.

"So what about you and Brian? Do you think he's going to ask you to move in or pop the question?"

"Uhm....well, we've only been dating for 2 years. I think we need a little more time before all that."

Melody's eyes go wide and she throws her hands in the air. "That's plenty of time to know! You need to start training that boy. Men don't know what they want. You gotta make them see what they're missing out on. You know, doing their laundry, sex on demand and shit."

"Melody! And what about you? 8 years isn't enough?"

"Well, all I know is if he hasn't given me a ring or a baby by Christmas this year, something's gotta give!"

Blair suddenly saw the man they basically guard all day come down the hallway. Melody quickly went back to her desk and sat down.

Blair stayed where she is and acted like she was working on something. She watches Damian Dresher, the owner's son go to the double wooden doors to his office. He's a very attractive man in his late 20's, early 30's. His face is very chiseled, he was a fine piece of work indeed. Blair was sure he went to the gym regularly. You could definitely see muscle through his tailored suits from time to time.

"I don't pay you ladies to socialize. Don't let me catch you again, Ms. Jackson or Ms.....I forgot your name." Blair resisted the urge to roll her eyes.

'Of course he would forget me. Apparently I'm so forgettable after 3 years.'

"Huxley, but I do prefer Blair." He stops trying to open his door and turns to you.

"Excuse me?"

Blair straightened up in her chair.

"I've been here for 3 years, sir. You should know my name by now. I'm Blair Huxley."

He smiles at her and although he has a nice smile, Blair knew there was no niceness coming. He put his large hand on her desk as he towered over her, making her smaller than she already felt.

"Alright, Ms. Huxley. If you want to work another 3 for us, I want you to check with maintenance and see what the ETA is on the elevators. I expect an answer in no less than thirty minutes."

He turned and walked back towards his office doors. He finally unlocked them and went in.

Blair looked over at Melody and her mouth basically dropped open as she looked at Blair.

"Are you crazy?! He could've fired you on the spot!" Melody shoots at Blair, trying not to be loud enough for anyone to hear.

"I was nice about it. I've been his second assistant for 3 years. He should know my name by now. He knows yours!"

"I've been here for 5 years. Believe me, he had no idea who I was for at least the first two. I guess he wants to make sure you're here for the long haul before he actually learns your name."

Blair sighed and shook her head. "Sad thing is....I'm not."

"That's right....When are you going back to school?"

Blair shakes her head. "I don't know.....I'm trying, I'm just not getting anywhere. It's super hard, especially with my Mom and her cancer...."

"Yeah....how is she doing?"

Blair shook her head and felt sadness start creeping in.

"Doctor's said that they're getting to the point they can't do anymore chemo."

Melody's mouth drops open slightly. "So what the hell are they going to do?!"

"They said there's this experimental medicine they're going to try, but they're not making promises it will work."

The conversation is interrupted by another person who walked between them. An older gentleman in a suit.

"Good morning, ladies."

They both in unison said "Good morning Mr. Dresher.".

Charles Dresher is the owner of Dresher Inc. He let his son, Damian Dresher take the reigns about 10 years ago.

Both Blair and Melody watched as he entered his son's office.

Meanwhile, inside.

"Ah, Father, what can I do for you?" Damien says as he finished whatever he was doing on his computer.

"Cut the act son, you know why I'm here."

"Yes, yes, I know. Your retirement. I accept full responsibility for the company. Where do I sign the paperwork for change of ownership?" Damian turns all the way in his chair to face his father, folding his hands on the desk.

"Hold your horses, son. Now you know the stipulation for that."

Damian has an outburst. "What stipulation?! I'm your son! This is my birth right! I've run this company for you for 10 years!"

Charles remains calm. "Be that as it may, we are a family company, son. I expect a family man to run my company. You clearly aren't interested in that. This company can't be run by the typical owner's playboy son."

"True, it hasn't been a priority...." Damian shrugs.

"Well, you better make it a priority or I'm selling the company by your 30th birthday."

"You can't be serious?! You can't do this!" Damian's mouth nearly drops open.

"Oh, as a heart attack, son. Remember the contract you signed when you assumed your role as the CEO?"

He nods.

"One of the stipulations was that you produce an heir to carry on the family tradition of running this company in order to keep your position and this company by the time you were 30. That's next year and you still have yet to produce one."

"That's easy! I'll just adopt....."

"You obviously didn't read the contract all the way through, son. You must produce an heir with our bloodline. You're not getting the company that easily!"

'Damn, I never thought in my 29 years of life, that I would regret not knocking someone up....I even took the condoms with me every time we were done to make damn sure. Crazy I know, but I couldn't take a chance....' Damian thinks as he was about to respond to his Father.

"And if I can't?"

"I sell the company and I doubt they'll keep you as CEO."

Damian stands straight up and out of his chair. "This is ridiculous! You really expect me to produce an heir within the next 12 months?!"

"Yes I do. Oh, and the contract states it can't be with some random woman. It has to be someone you have an established relationship with."

'Damn! Old man thought of everything!' Damian mentally curses his Father.

"Fine. It will be done." Damian finally relents.

Charles smiles. "Good then."

Damian watches his father as he leaves, glaring at his back.

"I'll be waiting for that happy announcement!" He says as he walks out the door.

Damian waits until the door closes, completely. He slams his fist into the top of the mahogany desk. "Damn it! How am I supposed to convince any woman to "just have a baby" with me and be fine about it?! I'm not fine about it!"

Back on the outside...

Both Blair and Melody watch as Mr. Dresher senior walks out of his son's office. You both hear something loud, like a fist hitting something hard.

'Oh....glad I'm not in there....He's kinda scary when he's pissed.' Blair thinks as she hears the noise.

"Excuse me.....excuse me?!"

You look up to see a woman in her late mid to late 30's. Her name is Monique. She's dressed in a black suite and pencil skirt, but the jacket is barely holding in her boobs. One of Mr. Dresher's "regulars".

'And she's one of the screamers too....ugh!' Blair almost cringes as she recalls memories.

Blair can almost keep track of how many times Damian Dresher has had random sex in his office. Blair and Melody both kept a sticky note with tallies and would compare how many times each of them has heard something akin to sex sounds, just for laughs.

'Oh lord, we need lives....'

"Yes ma'am. What can I do for you on this fine morning?" Blair plastered on the fake smile and turned on the charm.

"Oh drop the fake professionalism act. Is he available?" Monique said, rather impatiently.

"I do believe so."

Blair reached over to the office phone and paged him.

His rather annoyed voice comes over the speaker phone. "What is it?"

"Monique's here to see you, sir."

"Send her in immediately. Any update on the elevators?"

"No sir, still working on it."

"You've got 20 minutes left to find out or you know what happens."

Blair resists the strong urge to roll her eyes.

"Yes sir, right on it." He hung up with a loud click.

'Oh, he's in a mood today....'

"Go on in."

She turns away from Blair and proceeded to go into his office. Blair waited until the doors closed to look at Melody across from her.

"How did you manage not to be swallowed whole by her fake boobs?" Melody laughs a little as she says it, making Blair laugh slightly.

"3 years of practice. How do you know they're fake?"

"Trust me honey, they're fake."

Meanwhile, inside Damian's office.

Monique saunters in, dropping her purse in the empty seat in front of his desk. "Hey big daddy, wanna go get an early lunch?"

She says as she sits on his desk next to him. Crossing her legs one over the other while doing so.

"Or, we could do....other things...." She says as she leans in, showing off the girls barely held in by her jacket. He barely notices.

"Monique, we need to talk, seriously." Damian says as he leans back in his chair.

Monique excitedly bounces up and down on the desk like a child.

"Oh are you FINALLY proposing to me?! I absolutely accept! I know the perfect venue...."

She starts going on and on about wedding planning, but Damian holds a hand up to stop her.

"Not that....but it's something that pertains to that." She looks slightly disappointed, but still interested.

"Okay....what?"

"So you know I'm supposed to take over my father's company when I turn 30 next year, but there's a couple of stipulations...."

"Like what? You need a wife?" She says with a smirk.

"Close. Have you ever thought about having children?"

"Uhm....I can't." Monique says, frowning.

He looks at her in semi-shock.

"Why not?"

Her demeanor changed. She got off the desk and stood straight up.

"Damian, we talked about this! You said you didn't want kids! I got my tubes taken out so we didn't have to worry about it happening on accident! I didn't want any either! I'm almost 40 years old! I can't try to have kids now even if I wanted to!"

"Well....shit...." Damian shakes his head and throws his hands up in the air slightly.

"Well shit" is right! Why don't you adopt if he wants a grandchild so bad?!"

"Can't. He said the child must be by blood."

"You're not serious?!" She says, almost in shock.

"Same thing I said, but yes. He's serious. If I don't have one by next year, he'll sell the company and I won't have a job."

"Then what about us?! You're just gonna go out and knock someone else up just so you can keep your precious company?!" Monique asks, obviously upset.

"Can't do that either. He said it must be from an established relationship."

"But you've thought about it?!" She asked angrily.

"Well yeah Monique! I've thought about it every which way to be able to keep the company. Not only for me but in my family. We've had this company for generations. My Grandfather built this company."

Monique smiled. "We could just adopt a baby and say I had it. We could just tell him we kept it under wraps from the press."

"How are you going to explain hiding a pregnancy for 9 months? Especially still working as a fashion model? Your body won't look like it just "gave birth" in secret. Besides, my father will demand a paternity test, and when he finds out it's not mine, he'll rip it all out from under me."

"You really expect me to just sit on the sidelines and watch you have a baby with someone else?!"

Damian thinks for a moment. "Maybe I can work something out with someone who's willing to have my baby, act like they're in a relationship with me, and then stage a public break-up shortly after the child is born. I'll still have the heir my father wants, but I won't have to keep the mother around. I'll pay her off to sign her rights away."

Monique gasps. "Are you crazy?! No woman in her right mind would sign away her rights to a baby she created, especially with you!"

"Surrogate mothers do it all the time for families that can't have babies. That's basically what I'll be paying her for."

"So what am I supposed to do for 9ish months?! Sit around and wait for you?!" Monique nearly screams at him.

"No, you can go on. Date other people, if you want."

"Are you serious?! You're not even sad about this?! Don't you love me?!"

He looked at her with a blank stare.

"I told you, I don't fall in love. I date and if I felt like you would've been a good companion, I would've offered Marriage to you, but conditions have changed and I have to do what is best for me."

"Companion?! Like a dog?! This was not a business deal, Damian, this was our relationship!"

"Isn't that what relationships and marriages are, contractual agreements?"

She screams in frustration.

"Ugh! Well that's just....I don't even know how to respond to that Damian! Why are you like some damn robot?!"

Blair entered into this obviously awkward situation.

"Sir, I have an update for you on the....elevators...."

Monique turn her attention to Blair. "What the hell are you doing in here?! Haven't you heard of knocking?!"

Blair glares at Monique slightly. "You were screaming so loud, no one could hear my knocks, ma'am."

Damian waves her out of the way with his hand to see you.

"Yes, what's the update?"

"They'll finish repairs by noon today."

"Excellent. You may have just saved your job. Great work, Hunley"

"It's Huxley, sir." Blair said with slight annoyance.

He stares at Blair for a moment.

'Great...he may just fire me yet! Why can't I learn to keep my mouth shut?!'

"Why don't you just pick her?! She's not near as pretty as me, but with those hips, I'm sure she could easily push out a baby!" Monique yells at Damian. Blair's mouth drops open in shock, but quickly turns to anger.

"Excuse me?! " Blair exclaimed angrily.

"Or even your other secretary out there! Hell, bang this whole building! You're bound to knock up someone eventually!" Monique angrily turned and left his office, leaving Blair to stand there like a deer in headlights, having no idea what to do next.

"I...uhm.....what....?"

Damian got up and walked to Blair. He gently put his hand on her shoulder and motions for Blair to leave.

"I'm sorry you had to see that display. I can assure you it will never happen again. Get back to work, please."

He ushers Blair out until he had her back out on the walkway and closed his doors.

Melody spoke up. "What the hell was all that about?"

Blair shrugged her shoulders.

"I dunno. Something about knocking someone up? Monique suggested he get me pregnant, then you, then suggested he do the whole company! It was weird."

"Huh....that is weird.....maybe playboy in there knocked someone up or her oven is on the fritz and she's just mad it hasn't happened yet. I mean they've been messing around in his office at least for about a year or two. She shows up more than the others. Maybe he's having a problem committing?"

Blair smirked. "Like someone else we know....."

"Don't even get me started on my own love life again!" Melody said.

They both laughed and got back to work before Damian can see they're both screwing around again.

The workday drags on for you all day, but thankfully it was almost time to go home.

As Blair was starting to close everything out for the day and get ready to clock out, her phone got a notification.

Text: Hey babe, you working late tonight?

It's your boyfriend, Brian. The realization hits you.

'Shit! I totally forgot I have to stay behind and make up time because of that stupid elevator thing!'

Text: Sorry hun, I have to stay over for a little bit, but I'll meet you for dinner later?

Text: No worries, c u later.

Even though text, Blair can tell he's slightly disappointed.

'I don't do this to him often, but when I do, I absolutely feel like total utter shit.'

Melody clocks out and looked at Blair. "Well, I'm gonna head out now. See you tomorrow?"

"Unless I magically win the lottery, yes."

They both laughed.

"I'm going now.

Melody says as she picks up her purse and leaves.

Damian opened his doors and stepped out, closing them behind him. He looked a Blair for a moment, like he's considering something. He shakes his head slightly and leaves without saying a word to her.

'For being such a successful business man, he's such a weirdo.....'

After counting down the minutes, Blair is finally done making up time from the elevator incident this morning.

Blair quickly logged out and grabbed her purse and headed for the elevators.

Her phone dinged as she reached the elevators.

Text: Hey, I'm kinda tired and it's late. I'm at your place, come home and we can figure out dinner plans.

Blair rolled her eyes a little and groaned.

'Great. Probably chinese or pizza, again.'

Blair got in the elevator and made her way to the garage.

A little while later, she made it home.

She walked through her front door and a surprise awaited her. Blair saw two covered plates of food on her coffee table with her boyfriend sitting on the couch, waiting with wine. Brian is a fit 25 year old man. He has jet black hair and a sort of bushy beard to match. He reminded Blair of a guy from the 70's or 80's. He was also a musician.

'That's definitely not pizza!' She thought with a smile.

Brian smiled at Blair as he lifted the covers for both dishes.

"It's your favorite, chicken alfredo."

"Is this from....?" Blair asks, very surprised.

"Your favorite Italian place in the city? Yes. Good eye!"

"You went all the way into the city to get me my favorite dish from my favorite Italian place?"

Brian smile widens. "Only the best for my girl."

He came and wrapped Blair in his arms and gave her a kiss. He noticed the obvious look of distress on her face. He frowns a little.

"Rough day?"

Blair sighed and shook her head. "You could say that. His crazy ex or whatever she is came in and starting some crap during the day at work."

"And this affects you because....?"

Blair stepped away from him and went to sit on the couch, grabbing the already poured glass of Merlot sitting there, waiting.

Blair took a sip before responding.

"She was screaming at him about someone being knocked up and maybe he should get me and everyone else at the office pregnant. It was just weird."

"What the hell?! Blair, you need to leave that place. You shouldn't have to go through hell like that everyday at work."

Blair shook her head and took another sip.

"I would, but I'm trying to save up to go back to school."

"I could take care of you...."

Blair laughed sightly and caught herself.

"Oh...I didn't mean to do that. I mean, I love you for offering but you're struggling yourself with your music."

Brian raises his eye brow at her. "A poor, starving musician, you can say it."

Blair laughed again.

He knelt down in front of her, wrapping his arms around her waist. A look of genuine love and concern on his face.

"If need be, I'll find a way to take care of you and pay the bills"

"You can barely take care of yourself, Brian. It's okay. I'll find my own way back to school."

"Well....I do know of a way to take care of you right now....." He says with a smirk.

"What are you....?"

Blair doesn't get to finish her sentence before he picks her up easily, bridal style. She wrapped her arms around his neck.

He turned to go to her room with her in his arms.

"Still on the pill?" He asked.

"Always. No matter how bad I'm doing financially, that is the one thing I'm not giving up. That, and coffee."

They both laughed as he started towards her room.

"Wait, what about the food?!" She said on a laugh.

"Eh....we can always re-heat it."

He continued on to her room with her laughing. He headed down the hallway and kicked the door closed with his foot.
