Katie
An infuriated Katie Grant set at a local coffee shop with her best friend Gail Stone. Her father had just one the senate set for the state of Nevada and was getting ready to head to Capitol Hill in a short few weeks. Her mother had passed when she was younger, and it had been just her and her dad for years. She knew how protective he was about her, but she didn’t want to be followed around like a puppy that couldn’t take care of herself.
“I can’t believe my father is trying to give me an ultimatum, move to DC, allow him to assign me a Secret Service detail or some bodyguard,” Katie said in an angry tone to her best friend.
“Come on Katie, he’s just trying to protect you. I mean okay, let’s process the options. Moving to DC is out of the question because I would have to move too, and I am not living in DC! A Secret Service agent could be over kill and he would probably stand out in a crowd, but he could be cute. A personal bodyguard, now that could be okay and is the option I would choose. It will probably be some gorgeous hunk, with a to die for bod, wouldn’t stand out too much, and maybe wouldn’t be about business all the time,” Gail said back somewhat laughing in the beginning, then more serious at the end.
“You would be thinking about how good someone looks!” Katie said as her cell phone rings.
“Hello, this is Katie,” she said.
“Hello Ms. Grant, this is Bryan Shaw. I am the bodyguard that your father contacted. I was wanting to know if we could set up a meeting to discuss what your father is suggesting and get to know each other a little before I decide to take the job or not,” Bryan said on the other end of the phone.
“Look Mr. Shaw, I really don’t think I need any one following me around. I would understand it if there is an active threat to my life. However, to please my father, or at least let him think that I am willing to try, I will meet with you,” Katie said as Gail stood in front of her just shaking her heard.
“I understand. Are you available this afternoon, say at 2:00 pm and we can do a late lunch at Sunny’s Café’?” Bryan asked.
“A late lunch? That doesn’t sound very professional Mr. Shaw,” Katie replied.
“Ms. Grant, if you would prefer to meet in my office, that is fine with me. But under the circumstances of you not really wanting a bodyguard, and me unsure of if I want to take this job, by the way that is not up to you, but up to me and your father, I thought you might like an unprofessional meeting place. This meeting is just about us getting to know each other a little bit to see if we are a good match to work together,” Bryan said.
“Okay, Mr. Shaw. Since this is an unprofessional meeting, I will meet you at Sunny’s Café’ at 2:00 pm. Also, since we are getting to know each other, you can stop calling me Ms.Grant and just call me Katie,” Katie said.
Gail is looking at her now smiling and shaking her head yes. Katie just shook her head back at her like she was being annoying.
“Okay Katie, as long as you call me Bryan and I will see you in a few hours,” Bryan replied.
“Sounds great Bryan. See you then,” Katie said.
They hung up and Gail was staring Katie in the face.
“Well, at least you are meeting with him. And lunch huh? I want all the details when you get finished!” Gail laughed. “Now we need to find you out something to wear!”
“It maybe a relaxed meeting, but it is still a meeting and not a date,” Katie said shaking her head.
Gail replied, “We will see!”
