Research Experiment on Nudity at University: Part 1

A research team in a university wanted to do a research experiment on nudity. The idea formed by a research team lead by a professor at a social science faculty in a university. First, they debated among themselves for the suitability of the experiment. Their justification is, compared to last century in this century people tend to reduce the area of their body closed by cloths. Also, nude beaches and nude resorts are getting popular.

So the research team prepared the necessary documentation to get approval for the experiment from the University, local authority, and the necessary legal authorities. The university, being popular in diverse research programs approved it subject to other approval and they said that their legal team will assist in getting all other approvals.

Among many other things in the application for the approval document, the research team made it clear that they will follow the following procedures. The experiment will be conducted for a specified 30 days during the summer prior on a particular campus of the University. Only 5 subjects will be used as the nude experimental subjects. Except at the main gate, there is no other exposure from the inside premises from outside the campus. They would put enough notices at the entrance and other necessary places that it is a restricted access place and there is a possibility to view 5 nude persons inside the campus during those days. Also, minors are not allowed inside the campus during that time. In fact, there were lots of arguments within the research team whether they need to restrict minors since legal nude beaches do not have that restriction. But the research team finally concluded to restrict it since they do not want to risk any rejection from the local authority and legal authorities. Also they agreed to place two University security staff to be placed at the main gate of the campus all the time to make sure these restrictions are imposed and to make sure all those who enter the campus during those times are made aware of this nude experiment.

So, after 6 months of long procedure, the research team got all the necessary approvals with several conditions on the experimental procedure. Then they applied for research funding. To their surprise, they got enough funding immediately.

Before they start to advertise to hire subjects as nudists they ran an awareness program for the university community about this experiment, their objectives, their follow-up survey, the research questions that they seek to answer, and the social impact. They have placed many notices explaining about the above in many places within the campus. They put enormous effort into this awareness program since they will be performing several surveys before, during, and after the experiments and the success of their research experiments mainly depends on the response rate of those surveys by the university community.

Then the research team advertised initially for three subjects who has to be nude for the entire 30 days including when they sleep starting from the first day of the second month of the summer season of that year. They have verified with the weather data that the duration is perfectly suitable for being nude even at night.

There are several requirements listed for the subjects in the advertisement. They can put on shoes and a cap and that is all they can wear. The entire activity for the 30 days will be pre-planned with the research team with negotiations with the everyday commitments of each nude subject. All the meals are to be eaten at the shops on campus and the entire expense will be supported by the research team. They will be given University accommodation that is inside the campus. Except for sleeping it is encouraged to stay outside their accommodation. Never to use private vehicles inside the campus and encouraged to use the university shuttle service running frequently within the campus premises. There are several requirements on how nude subjects should maximize their exposure of their private body parts. They should not cover their private parts, for males it is the buttocks, penis, crotch and nibbles, for females it is the entire breast, buttocks, vagina and clitoris by their hands or by any objects. When they stand in a public place they need to ensure that these areas have full visibility and they should not stand behind or in-front of a tree or any object if it is up to the height of their buttocks. In university shuttle transport they have to stand up all the time. When standing up they have to keep their legs at-least one feet apart and when they sit down to keep their knees as far apart as can be or at-least two feet. Always they have to find a place that has maximum public visibility to their private parts. They are expected to do jogging for 20 minutes each day evening and 40 minutes in week-ends through the university walk ways suggested by the research team.

During the 30 days whenever they go for toilets, whether it is for peeing or lavatory they have to use water to clean it, there is no excuse on it. The research team will arrange to take video of any of their activity at any time. In addition, the research team can ask any further requirements during the interview or when they sign the nude subject contract. They will be paid 15 000 dollars for being a nude subject for that 30 days.
