Zomba The Beautiful Girl
Rejection and Redemption Zomba’s Final Journey

Zomba used to be a beautiful girl. Once she went to a neighboring village to celebrate Reh a festival of the Idu Mishmi tribe. There she had a lot of fun. She kept enjoying herself for two-three nights without sleeping. Because of this she became very tired. When Zomba returned home tired, sleep was not coming out of her eyes. So she kept sleeping continuously day and night, leaving all work. Zombas stepmother could not tolerate her lying like this all day. She got angry and tried to wake her up, but she did not wake up. Then her stepmother got very angry and she took hot coal from the burning stove and burnt her private parts. Now Zomba could not even urinate.
When she reached her brother in a pitiable state, he turned his face away from her and closed the door of his house. When she reached her father, he also closed the door on her face saying, You are of no use. When she went to her mother, she too closed the door.
Disillusioned with life, Zomba finally decided to commit suicide. Zomba was very rich. She had sixteen pigs, sixteen chickens, sixteen aatanu jewels and sixteen bales of wool. She transferred all her savings to her younger sister Amuwari and wanted to commit suicide by jumping into the river, but Amuwari did not let her do so and followed her. Amuwari cried and asked her not to leave her. But Zomba was determined. Zomba sat on the bank of the river and wept and sang, When I went to my parents and brother, they all refused to accept me, saying, Zomba, whose vagina has been burnt and closed, is now of no use, because now no one will come to marry her. Saying, Such a useless girl has come, everyone closed their doors for me. I have no one in this world. That is why I want to consider the river as my parents and go to their lap forever.
But Amuwari did not leave him even for a moment. Then Zimba said to Amuwari, Hey! Look at that beautiful bird flying over there! Amuwari started looking there. Then Zimba got a chance and jumped into the river and seeing this Amuwari drowned in grief. Then after a while she saw Zimba sitting on a stone in the middle of the river combing her hair. Later she again jumped into the river. Seeing all this Amuwari cried a lot. She fainted while crying. Then a tiger came and ate her. It is believed that Zimba became a mermaid.
