“You made the wrong turn,” is what you say. It’s a death sentence. It’s more than an accurate accusation, it feels worse than a flagrant violation one could’ve made in an important soccer match, something that could make a whole crowd burst into a riot if justice isn’t swiftly met.

We didn’t go to the zoo, so we decided to go to the Turtle Park, right across the freeway entrance.

I felt flustered and missed the turn.

The drive home is deadly quiet.

The day was ruined by me, so three blows to the head.

I took the wrong turn.

Haunting. I could read the tension. On the second line though, I think you meant "it feels worse, not "it's feels worse.

  • Bottomless tale 🥹but I would like to visit the Turtle 🐢 Park❗

😔 This is tough to read. My wife is an abuse survivor (as am I). Hoping you are clear of this relationship now. 💙 Great work on this piece, Melissa. Almost *too* real. Almost.

  • I'm hoping those three blows to the head were a matter of hitting yourself & not someone else abusing you. Not that you should not be kinder & more forgiving to yourself (I know, I struggle with that, too), but at least if it was self-inflicted you could moderate the blows to what you could handle.
