With Power

Some of the decal had been peeling and the serial numbers faded on the equipment. Dr. Reginald Hanover still looked at his laboratory equipment with pride. At ninety-six-years-old, he still possessed the stamina and ability to fulfill what would be his last task: a cure for every ailment known to man.

He worked from the age of twenty when he had first earned his doctorate. This propelled him into a career of chemistry where he worked in multiple labs in Delaware. Earlier, his black skin prevented him from entering into some labs across the state. He negotiated this obstacle by starting his own lab.

The Reginald Hanover Laboratory proved to be a haven for creating new ways to aid the ailing body and spirit. As an atheist, he knew the spirit part had only been about the mind or psyche. So, for this new endeavor to work, he had to rely on over seventy years of experience. He had to use his brain.

With thousands of maladies that could affect a human, Dr. Hanover knew he had to take the formulas on paper and craft them into reality.

He then heard a noise in the back of the lab. Dr. Hanover then walked over to the space where the sound originated. Then, a small fire ignited in the laboratory. His assistant, Maxina Azalea used the fire extinguisher before the fire became an inferno.

“Are you okay, Dr.?” She asked. Her breathing seemed heavy, but the doctor showed no signs of hyperventilating.

“Not really….” In the doctor’s haste, he spilled the single pill he had always wanted to have as an example. it would take another seven decades to craft a pill to cure all illnesses.

He did not sob. “Will you take on my work?”

“Of course.”

Then he smiled.
