Winter's Whispers

Confessions of a broken soul

By Ramie LewisPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Departing Mount St. Francis, easing into the lefthanded turn as I passed through the gated entrance, an ethereal sensation overwhelms me. A very personal moment. No witness. No audience. Everything I see, feel, and hear right now is exclusively mine.

I felt my tire’s treads grip into the pristine blanketed rural road and heard the crystals of snow crunch under their pressure. I was simultaneously mesmerized by the swirling snowfall fleecing the landscape, flakes whirling around shimmering in the moonlight like glitter suspended in a snow globe.

Silence softly embraced me as I absorbed winter’s ethereal arrival. Still vibrating from the spiritual atonement and the wisdom I had received during my surrender at the mission, I involuntarily wept. Coming here today, facing my fears, reveal myself; was crucial to moving forward in my journey.

As the newly fallen snow quiets the night, winter’s transcendental power commands all my senses. Heavenly whispers carried within the matrix of each glistening snowflake. Which ones mine? Twirling, twisting, spiralling carefree. Carried whimsically by winter’s frosty breath their angelic beauty calms me, but for a moment.

Exhaling with a loud sigh, breaks my peaceful trance and brings me back, focusing on the dark rural road ahead. A sudden chilled rush of remorse and grief surges through my veins. This visceral swell is antithetical to the peaceful wonder and exhilarating joy this fresh falling snow dance just made me feel. I am numb with exhaustion, frozen solid from pain. I have been hiding for too long.
