We all know the feeling. That feeling of that painful strain that engulfs your cheek bones when you receive some distressing news.and then it happens. Your eyes water and clear wetness rolls down your cheek. They are called tears and come out of your eyes in heavy percussion once you start crying. As sentient beings crying is a natural function of our humanity, but why does this functioning exist?

It all started at the beginning of time. God created Heaven and Earth and with them both he created creatures who would inhabit the land. Of course the ruling inhabitants of the land would be humanity and as humans we are destined to learn and grow as we travel this journey called life.

The thing about the journey of life is that it Carrie’s with it a lot of moments. Some of these moments will bring us a great deal of joy, creating periods of life called happiness. As many would consider regrettable, the journey of life also brings us moments of pain, suffering and turmoil. As humans it’s understandable that we do not long for these moments and would rather live without them, but everything in life happens for a reason and these moments of pain are part of that reasoning.

When the Heavens allowed pain to accompany us on journey of life they also equipped humanity with an emotional release to assuage our pain and this came in the form of the ability to cry. What does it mean to cry? We cry when we feel pain, whether it be mental, emotional, physical or even spiritual. Crying is how we express how that pain makes us feel, but why did Heavens give us this mechanism called crying?

Though crying comes about when we are struck with pain, the Heavens granted us the will to cry as an outlet for our pain that helps us feel better and contribute to our health. Crying brings us resolution and longer life. Have you ever heard someone joke about people who cry a lot living longer or smile more? Well it is true. The Heavens gave us the will to cry so that we could express our emotional burdens in a way that not only brings us closure, but keeps us living healthy long lives without holding in pain, having it overwhelm our hearts and sending us to an early grave. So when someone wants to know the legend behind why we cry, be sure to tell them that crying is our gift of emotional closure.

I think I may have run out of tears. Maybe I should drink more water. This was certainly a way to bring tears to the eyes.
