Why I Thanked God for the Rain

Garden of Words

It was raining the day I met her. She was in white topped with a blazer and a skirt long enough to make me look at her feet — wet.

Luckily I was holding a pen and a paper, and my eyes were free. She opened a drink-in-can. Her fingers gently moved, tilting and twisting.

Coke? No.

Coffee? No.

Beer? Beer! Yes, came bittersweet.

She was a step away but she was somewhere else. I could tell.

I didn’t know what came to me. Maybe it was the smell of the rain, the sight that she was soaked by it, or because she was not paying attention. A war waged inside me.

Have you ever felt something so strong but decided to keep it to yourself? Assuming you can’t keep the person.

Each person has an energy field. We can’t see it but it’s there. Each attempt to converse or connect gives us a chance to enter and experience life the way they do.

It could be a Hi — dip and leave.

It could be through a set of questions to get a glimpse and put them on the side.

It could be asking for points to stay connected (whatever form).

It could be slow and steady — safe enough to test the waters before breaking into it and asking for permission for every superficial layer broken.

Or it could be just how I felt back then, pushing and pulling. Knowing what I want but knowing that I shouldn’t. But if you proceed in this state, there’s a high chance you’ll stay stuck.

But man oh-so-human, only a few could resist the allure of risks and I’m not one of them.

All it takes is a split second to turn a man’s care to I don’t care.

“Shouldn’t you be in class?” She asked

A split second

A question

A breaking

Lifted my head,

“Yes but it’s raining, I ought to stay.”

Thanked God for the rain.
