Where the Hear Waits

A fisherman's love story

By Rohitha LankaPublished 9 months ago 2 min read

''Where the Heart Waits''

Every dawn, while the sun still slumbers beneath the horizon, a young fisherman embarks on his journey into the endless blue. His hands are scarred and knotted by years of hard work, his face bruised by the salty wind, but his heart, his heart is made of clouds, it is full of love and stillness.

When he gets to the outermost reaches of the ocean, on the lonely beach, there is his beautiful wife.

She is always waiting. This is the usual Farah, her gaze locked into the waves, the tiny boat that is the vessel of her world, actively searching for a justification to breathe.

She smiles for him, but there, under her skin, is the pain of every goodbye, the unspoken dread of ''what if?''

He knows this too. He feels it. With each swell that rakes his boat, with each tempest that looms on his course, he thinks of her.

And how she held onto him tighter each morning, in a way that felt like she wanted to keep him forever safe in her arms.

But she sets him free because love is also trusting the sea, trusting the fight, trusting the return.

They did not have life written on wealth or luxury. It is written in sacrifices, collective hopes, and the will to endure when life becomes unbearable.

It is not only for his life that the fisherman battles with the ocean but also for the promise he gave the promise of returning to her, time and again.

She is a fighter too. Not with nets or boats, but patience, prayer, and faith. She struggles against the loneliness, the long hours, the waiting. She knows that her love provides him strength to take on the waves.

And this is their story but perhaps it can also be ours.

For life is a preparation, after all, and the world is our bait - a bait we have to deal with, and then some.

We all could use someone like the fisherman's wife, someone who believes in us, who waits for us, who stands by us even when the sea gets stormy.

Remember this:

The beauty of life is not the absence of struggle, but the heart willing to hold you through struggle.

True love is not simply showing up when things are good but remaining, believing and waiting when the storms arrive.

May we all have the fighting spirit of this fisherman and the strength to love like his companion.

Because the best thing in life is not how far you go looking for happiness, but who you have waiting for you when you get there.
