When Sally Met Johnny and Johnny Met Sally, Then Along Came Ross in a Sportscar
A True Life Story
When Sally was born, everyone said she was a beautiful baby, and they were right. She was born with radiant blue eyes and the start of true blonde hair.
When Johnny was born, everyone said he was a beautiful baby, but they were just being polite.
Sally and Johnny had been born many miles apart but they were destined to meet and to fall in love.
Sally was always the youngest in her family. Her father was a barrister and her mother was a local magistrate. Both her brothers followed in their parents' footsteps and trained in law to become lawyers. It was expected by all, that Sally too would enter the legal profession. Sally, though, wanted to become a teacher.
John's father was a station porter at the local train station, his mother was a shop assistant for most of her life. John didn't know what he wanted to do. Until, as part of a community project at his high school, he volunteered to help at a local school for disabled children. John found this work to be both enjoyable and satisfying; it also meant he had time away from his school work. From this time, John decided that he, too, wanted to become a teacher.
So it was that the destiny of Sally and Johnny started to come together. In early September, they both started their teacher-training at the same college in Liverpool.
They both wanted to become teachers but they wanted to teach at different levels. Sally wanted to teach young children and Johnny wanted to teach children with disabilities. So it was that the college lectures they attended, were not usually the same ones; .. but sometimes they were.
It was when they attended the same college sessions that Johnny first saw Sally and Sally first saw Johnny. Johnny liked to sit behind Sally but not too closely behind. He liked to watch her and her long blonde hair. When Sally got bored, or sometimes just to tease, she would gather her long hair over one shoulder and commence stroking it for a while. Then she would flick her head and her hair would swing around behind her and then fall perfectly across her opposite shoulder.
Johnny loved watching Sally. And Sally liked him watching her.
Sure enough, Sally and Johnny became friends and they started doing things together; student things, study things and naughty things too.
Over time, their friendship developed into something more. Johnny sometimes thought ' how do you know...', 'how do you know when you are in love?' Maybe Sally thought this too.
One day, they were sitting close together on a park bench. Johnny looked at Sally and Sally looked back at him. Johnny looked into Sally's eyes and he saw how they shone like bright blue sapphires.
And Johnny knew that he was in love, and Sally knew too.
Still students, Johnny and Sally decided to get engaged. Their destiny had started to come true. Yet, to fulfill your destiny is not always your fate.
Johnny was happy and Sally was too. All their friends were also happy to see them together.
Until it came time for Johnny to sit his final exams.
Because Johnny and Sally wanted to teach different levels and different children, when it came time for Johnny to sit his final exams, Sally had one more year still to do.
So Sally and Johnny made a plan. Johnny would, after his exams, go and teach for a year while Sally completed her studies at college and sat her final exams. Then they would start their life together.
So it was that Johnny started teaching in a school while Sally stayed behind.
Then along came Ross.
Ross thought he was 'God's gift' to mankind or, at least, to the female part of it. He eyed all the girls and all the girls seemed to eye him. Ross looked at Sally and Sally looked at Ross. Sally thought 'no'.
Ross, however, had a sportscar and Sally thought would it not be fun, just once, to have a ride in one.
So it came about that Sally and Ross went for a drive in his sportscar. Sally loved the feel of the wind blowing through her long hair. Ross looked at Sally while he drove.
Ross looked at Sally.
Ross looked at Sally for too long.
Too late. Turn twist, skid. Breaking metal, breaking glass, breaking bones and breaking hearts.
Sally died instantly in the accident by the side of the road. Ross died two days later in hospital.
But what about Johnny? Poor Johnny, what happened to him?
