When Harry Met Sally
A Great Love Story
Harry was working 9 to 5 in his office as usual. He could not figure out why his life was an upheaval. All he knew was work and he did not know how to get out of this world. With his eyes heavy on the computer and doing nothing but the usual every day. He was the only one in the workplace who did not take regular breaks. Work was his life and life was work. And one day he was invited by some young guys at work to go out, they wanted to personally get to know their boss. At first, he refused but after a sad birthday, he took the offer in the City of Lights, Paris, France. Harry wanted to see the places first and whatever, whoever caught his eyes that is where he and the guys would go at. So they looked and looked on the weekend. The young guys cheered and jeered at the young women gently but Harry was not buying it. Until in the sunset he saw this braying beauty walk from the beach into an upcoming bar, she shines in the sun. And Harry told all the other guys that's his and he would pay for all their drinks if they help get that girl.
Sally was too happy to notice how anyone could take her off her feet. She had been hurt before but that was a long time ago. Long time with terrible men who did not wine and dine her. She was ready to see life for itself and brisk life for what it was. She wanted a man only if he was able to help her meet her goals in life. Her father's last words were, Sally be happy no matter what in what be happy and that is all I wish for you. Sally's mother lived well with her new husband in America. They only talked about certain things when they come up. Sally made it her business to share what she thought was important to her. Though distant they still are somewhat close.
Anyway, the guys treated Harry like an emperor as he paid for their drinks. They paid for their ladies' drinks and everyone was having a good time. Harry saw Sally look at him with great interest. And he could not help looking her way, this happens for hours until he thought she might leave. She sat near the bar and he sat next to her and said Excuse me what is your beautiful name, Madame? And for a moment, Sally laughed and act as if she did not hear him. And the bartender said Madame Sally here is your drink?
And before Harry could respond and feel awkward she said Sir it is simple. It's just Sally. My mother loved Sally over anything else.
Are those your friends or sons? And Harry responded I'm just taking the young fellows out to show them that bosses can be nice but never mind about that. What about you? I wonder where have you've been all my life. Sally replied My life is complicated and love seems impossible if you want to get to know me. Tell me something about you that you have never revealed to anyone else. Something truthful and I will tell you mines. Harry responded Okay, I never got to say goodbye to my parents before they died. I couldn't get home in time and my brother already planned the funeral. So I worked all day and night, to hide my shame, and I had never been on a date in a while. These guys are helping me to see my potential.
Sally almost cried or maybe she was too drunk for feelings, You sound like a good guy with a bad rap. My father's last words were for me to be happy and nothing else. I don't have a sibling just a mother who moved on in America. I don't need anything from anybody except love. I always wanted to fall in love, dream of love, and die from love. Love is the most beautiful thing in the world. But I met a lot of nobodies tearing me down because of my beauty and never looking at my heart. Harry responded, If you show me your heart, I will never hurt it. I will never leave you. I will never walk away. You're the reason I came in here. You're the most beautiful woman to me. I will die saying that if that is not love then I don't know what is. Sally dared, Show me that love now. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to see it. I'm about half-drunk but I want to know you more. So Harry gave the guys from his work, money to catch a cab while Harry and Sally took a stroll along the streets of Paris for some time. They laughed together like a couple and pick up some ice cream. She ate some and smash the rest on Harry's cheek then she licks it off and they kiss for the first time. Harry said, I never want this to end Sally. I never want to leave your side. There is something special about you. Sally said, Then show me your love. And they kiss passionately over the balcony of the restaurant and hotel while the sun started to disappear into the sky.
When Harry met Sally, he decided that night to put love first before anything else. And he ordered breakfast that morning ate with Sally and called his work asking for some time off. Harry's boss was glad to hear that and gave him three weeks. Within those weeks Harry and Sally grew close. They could not help holding hands in public and laughing about being in love. When Harry finally met Sally's mother, her mother tried to test him. And she almost succeeds at breaking them up because she told Sally he is like your father. However, Sally after delaying a response, explained to her mother using her father's last words and ending with her love for her father. Harry replied, Mrs. Santores, I only hope for the best and wish only well. I have worked enough most of my life to take care of Sally for as long as I live. I don't expect her to hold this marriage alone. I am in this hand and feet and without any regret. And Sally and Harry whisk away to marriage on the beach in the shadows of Notre Dame.
