What Is Going On?

Part 4 is here...

By Michael HawkinsPublished 2 years ago 2 min read

We entered the building. The stranger walked down the hallway with me following. I grew a little concerned about this, for the stranger has been giving me unsettling feelings since the state fair. As we continued to walk, I noticed my surroundings beginning to grow dark. Before I knew it, I began to feel light-headed and I collapsed. But just as I hit the floor, it immediately turned into asphalt.

I raised my head to see myself on the street once more, only it was more lively. My wife walked away from me rather brisk, her arms folded. I quickly rose to my feet and began to chase her down. As soon as I grabbed her arm, I blacked out once more.

When my eyesight returned, I found that I was back in the hallway. The stranger is gone? Where is he? Just then, I heard a voice; "Finally. We're now getting somewhere." The stranger walked out of the darkness, his umbrella still open. "What is going on?" I asked him, feeling my heart starting to pound. "You will find out soon enough," the stranger said once more before he turned away. I scrambled onto my feet, my left leg throbbing, and I followed him once more.

He opened the next door before us and we entered a large room featuring three mirrors. "I don't understand," I said, "what are these for?" The door closed behind me and immediately red light flashed and blinded my eyes. I closed my eyes tightly. When I opened them, I was horrified yet confused; my reflection on the left was covered in blood yet appeared more scared than I, my other reflection on the right had a set of cuts all over yet my reflection was smiling. Only my reflection in the center appeared normal.

But then my center reflection darkened and my eyes began to glow red and both of my other reflections screamed. Were they screaming in fear or in anger, I don't know. I immediately closed my eyes and covered my ears as tightly as possible, yet I could still hear the screams.

Then, everything fell silent. When I opened my eyes, the mirrors and the red light were gone. I'm losing my mind! I try to find my wife and yet I'm being hit with hallucinations while the stranger disappears after offering to help me find her. Shaking my head, I immediately turned and left. All I could guess is that the hallucinations were from a concussion I must have suffered at home, along with my amnesia. I decided to go to the police and see if they can help me.

I should've gone to them in the first place. In fact, I should've just called them when I came to. Who am I to do this myself? If I end up being a suspect, so be it. I'll feel more relaxed when she's found.

"You're almost there."

I turn around and the stranger stood there. "I will show you where your wife is."

FINALLY! It's about time he helped. The stranger turned around and began to walk down the street once more and I followed, knowing that this time I will find my wife, be reunited with her, and put this nightmarish night to an end. Hang in there, baby. I'm coming.
