As usual, I was bored stiff helping my mum clean the house and as we hadn't cleaned for a week it was messy and dirty. Then suddenly there was a small, rumbling earthquake and Mum's mirror fell off the wall and smashed into hundreds of little pieces. I was so annoyed, now I had to sweep that up too! All of a sudden, Tranio knocked at the door and the goat bolted so my dad ran after it. Luckily my mum let me go and play jacks for about five minutes and then there was a loud rumble and smoke rose from the tip of Vesuvius, I was very confused. Had someone lit a fire? But no, the seagulls were flying the wrong way, towards the woods, that was weird and then Tranio told me to follow him, quickly to the shore, everyone was screaming or dropping their pots, now I was really terrified. Suddenly, a house came tumbling down to the ground as we ran to the shore! Noisily, ash came drifting over the village houses, some of them with no rooves, and the plumes of ash and smoke billowed from the tip of Mount Vesuvius. Tranio and I were devastated, and so were many others, I imagine, everything was crazy and catastrophic, I couldn't breathe but I knew I had to carry on.

By now the town was in flames and a kind sea captain urged me onto his cargo boat, but where was Tranio? I looked and looked and I eventually found him but he couldn't breathe at all! So we ran back to the sea captain and quickly climbed onto his boat.

When we looked back, we saw the ash-covered city, we had to get away quickly or we would be killed by the volcano too! So we rowed and rowed until our arms ached and we were safe.

Now our home was covered in ash, we were devastated. We heard the last muffled screams of the citizens of Pompeii and everything was gone! All our things were lost under the ash or burnt up, everything and everyone was gone! We had no friends or family anymore except each other!

Tranio and I were so confused, why would Vesuvius erupt, it's the protector, isn't it? We were also really melancholy as all our families were dead! There was total devastation and the city of Pompeii was submerged in ash! Our home was gone and we didn't have anywhere to live now!

By eight o'clock in the morning, there was total silence as we watched from a distance in our boat! None of the houses were still standing and I could barely even see where they had been and there wasn't a bird, an animal or a person left, only us!

The entire city stunk of smoke and ash, it was disgusting and horrible, we had lost our city forever! Pompeii was silent. It looked like grey water had suddenly emerged from the earth and sunk the city. I could taste the bitter air and my tongue stung. I could still barely breathe as the leftover ash loomed over my head. It was terrifyingly devastating.

Note:

I wrote this story when I was eight so it may be as incredible or professional as other stories you read but no hate, please. I wanted not to change the way the story was written by eight year old me so I only corrected grammatical, punctuational or spelling errors as I wanted to keep it authentic. Sorry if this is annoying to read. I apologise for my over usage of exclamation marks and adjectives and for my strange paragraphing. I also apologise for any other issues you may find in my work.

Thanks, V:)

Remarkable for an eight year old. Thanks for sharing.

  • Hey guys, I'm V and I wrote this story when I was eight years old, so it's a little ridiculous, but still fun to read. The exclamation marks are really bad and so is my crazy usage of adjectives and adverbs but...
