You’d think being involved in an accident involving an octopus, you’d think you’d get extra limbs and the ability to shoot ink. Nope! But what I did get was the ability to suction onto things with great grip and mimic my surroundings in perfect camouflage. So naturally, I’m sent on covert missions.

Our handler, Maria, recently recruited another teenager with a skill she wanted to utilise in building up the task force. They busted Splice with a sting heist, and now she had to work off her debt. Denial got brought in last week, we often did missions together, and got along well enough. Marie was trying to convince some guy with wings to join, but he seemed a bit unhinged from what I saw.

We were training for a new mission when the large doors to the training room opened, we stood watching Marie enter, followed by a woman with long blonde hair.

‘Team, let me introduce your newest members,’ she nodded to the woman who touched a ring on her finger. A surge of pink light burst out and armour wrapped around her body. ‘This is Starlight,’ said Marie.

She gave a loud whistle, and Finder came in, head covered. After a beat another woman entered, looking standoffish and not wanting to be here.

‘You may know Endurant from the viral news footage … now Stewards … let’s get out there and stop that Monstrosity!’’
