Unexpected stop

By Timothy E JonesPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

The pirate ship slowly cut through the icy waters, the ice was several feet thick, and the ram they used to cut through the ice had cracked and calling it useless would have been an upswing.

The captain peered through his spyglass at the island they weren't too far away from. "So, we have two things in our favor in all of this mess."

"And what is that?" The first mate frowned; all he could see was the blinding snow.

"We're close to an island, just a short walk over thick ice."

"What's the second?"

"I just spotted some deer, and who knows, we may be able to find some good spots for fishing."

"We just raided a ship; so, we have several barrels of rum, and if there's deer, there's bound to be fresh water," the first mate paused, "but how long do you expect us to be stuck on this island?"

"Oh, this region's not known to be like this all year round, so in a month or too the ice will have broken up enough for this old ship to make it to a proper port, where we can make much needed repairs to our vessel."

"Then it's done, we'll stop here for a few weeks; a month at best, then we'll move on." At that the first mate began to bark out orders to the crew, as the captain began to plot the safest route over the ice.
