Unconditional

The harder you love, the harder it is to let go

By Claire JonesPublished 3 years ago 1 min read
A human hand holding a dog's paw

Ace was always the first one to greet me when I came home. It didn’t matter if I was in a good mood or a terrible one, he was always so happy to see me.

That’s how I first knew something was wrong. It was so heartbreaking to see him sick that I wasn’t sure I could be there at the end. But every day for the last nine years he had been there for me and it was time to return the favor.

“Good boy.” I said as I held his paw one last time.
