David smiled and sent another message to Alex, her cute demeanor revealing a fuzzy feeling in his chest. Since the relationship had just blossomed, he was still very emotionless, but gave her every bit of love that she had.
Gone were the years of abandonment and betrayal, the times of depression and despair. After years upon years of suffering from everything, it was finally his time!
David was about to turn the phone off when he got a message from an account with the name Sera, but without a profile picture.
Get out of your room and meet me by your brother's rock.
David stared at this message for a while. His brother's rock wasn't far from his own room, but how did this person know his property...?
His brother used to pace around the property all the time, and "his rock" was a large boulder that was stuck in the ground. He used to think and reflect on previous decisions.
David figured it must be a prank. To be safe just in case, he grabbed his throwing knives and his survival knife and tied them to his belt. It was a full moon, and there was no light pollution so he would have no problem seeing.
To make sure she didn't worry, David told Alex that he needed to use the restroom and he'd be in his room in about half an hour. She seemed sad but if this person knew where he lived, he didn't have much of a choice.
As he closed the door, he noticed that the moon was strangely brighter than usual, even without any light pollution. He narrowed his eyes at the light and started to walk to the rock.
This wasn't the only abnormality though. He found a bunch of glowing dove feathers outside his window, but doves did not naturally show up where he lived. There was a sharp rock that also seemed to glow in the moonlight. As he knelt to pick the rock up, it sliced through his finger and drew blood almost immediately.
After wrapping his finger up in the handkerchief, he stood back up and walked over to the rock, looking around to find the person who called him here.
It was a hilly area, sure. But at this spot you had a vantage point over the whole property. David narrowed his eyes and stopped moving completely. There was no wind, no noise, just him and-
David whirled around and saw a pale woman standing next to his brother's rock. Fear immediately swirled in his chest, as no one could possibly sneak up on someone out here with how well sound carried out there.
She stroked the boulder with her hand, an unsettling grace to her movements. Her eyes were deep blue, with soft light pink lips, soft skin and silver hair. She looked like a seraph.
"You suffered quite a bit, didn't you?" She asked, her voice smooth and higher pitched.
David did not say anything but nodded.
She stopped touching the boulder and looked at him, his stomach churning from her eyes.
"You see, He doesn't need humans like you. He needs submissive people, people who follow the leader, not people who fight."
"Who are you talking about?" David asked, fingering the hilt of his knives.
She smiled. "God, of course. People who struggle against fate are useless to him, unless an agent of darkness would show weakness to said fighter. But there are no such people. So, you are obsolete." She said, standing up. David shook his head and grabbed the hilt of his survival knife.
"I gave up on believing him long ago. My 'trial' should not have lasted my whole life. I'm 19, and he has never given me a chance." David snarled back.
The woman's smile faded, and she took her jacket off, revealing a set of white glowing wings, and pulled out a dagger with that glowing metal from earlier.
"He commands me to kill you, as you know the truth, you'll stop our plan if you're left alive."
No human would have the reflexes to avoid or block the dagger that suddenly flew into David's leg. He gasped in pain and the darkness in his chest was replaced with happiness, a feeling he had not felt in years.
Another knife made of light shot itself into his arm, then his stomach. David stumbled to the ground, clutching the wounds as the light faded, opening the hole.
A mix of focusing on Alex and coming to the reality of what God was planning seemed to change something.
Hmm... a human saw through the deception? Let's see what they can do.
David blinked twice. Time seemed to freeze momentarily, and David ripped the knife out and the happy feelings disappeared. The happiness is what he always wanted, but if some god had given him the power to fight someone who was deceiving humanity, he had to take the opportunity to save everyone.
I'm going to destroy your mental health, in return, I'll give you power.
The small bit of happiness David normally felt shriveled a little, and he felt all of his emotional pain grow worse slightly, but darkness emanated from his body. His wounds disappeared, and he stood up.
"He wants to take humanity, huh? Well, he is going to have to hurry before I kill him first.
Shadows wrapped around his body, changing his clothes and forming a crude looking sword at his side.
The seraph hissed and jumped back but was too slow. An outstretched hand covered in darkness was clutched around her neck, smothering her light, and ultimately killing her. Upon opening his hand, quartz sprinkled out of it.
A beam of light shot at his shoulder, but he evaded it and looked up. Tons of seraphim filled the sky, all brandishing some kind of holy weapon.
Vessel, my name is Ultima. Kill these murderers, and let's take the world back.
David flipped his sword and smiled, his eyes changing to a glowing purple.
It was finally time to set everyone free.
