The Gluttonous Sun

Day 1: At exactly 3:14am universal time on Friday, July 29th 1996, all of earth's living creatures received a telepathic message in a language they understood. This message was from the sun of the solar system, and it was warning every sentient life form that in 5 days it would reap what it had been cultivating for these billions of years. It stated that while it usually still had billions of years left before this process, it could tell that life is in a decline in its solar system so it wants to cut its losses and take in all this life energy at its current peak. It expressed gratitude to those that decided to help it, and special recognition to those that succeeded. It told all life that for those that helped it, now was the time.

On the third rock from the sun, the most capable species of the planet knew exactly what to do, and so they plotted. Meanwhile it’s most arrogant and evolved species, humans, had themselves a little panic. Their leaders stood up and reassured their respective masses that all was going to be okay. These humans lied. These tiny humans told the masses that hackers and terrorists stole experimental satellite technology and beamed the message directly into their heads. They reported that the bandits were still at large but not to worry, the leaders are all looking into it with their agencies. Most of the world accepts this lie but some riot to seek the truth. These riots are dealt with accordingly with each country's respective laws. The world's authoritative figures relocate to underground bunkers that day.

Day 2: At exactly 3:14am universal time on Saturday the sun darkened to a violent red. Satellite, internet and phone services start to short-out around the world. Cities are thrown into chaos as the people, desperate for answers and protection, riot full of fearful aggression. Authorities call in soldiers to control the situation and they clash with the public. Marshal law is enacted across most of the globe. The streets run red with red with blood. Those same Authorities reassure everyone there is nothing to worry about, that they are definitely topside working with the smart people to get to the bottom of this and definitely did not abandon the people to hide underground.

Day 3: At exactly 3:14am universal time on Sunday all the plant life on earth's surface begin to burrow deep underground. This takes place over the course of the entire day but its effects are immediate and catastrophic. Where there was once a support system of flora there is now a twisting, churning pit. Where trees once held back a mountainside to prevent a rock/dirt slide or avalanche, there is nothing; the flora even burrowed through stone and crumbled it into a granular powder. Where there was once a foundation of intertwining roots that towns and cities were built on top of, the ground now shredded apart and swallowed whatever was topside. Entire cities were devastated, towns and villages were no safer as the ground was seemingly turned inside out. The leaders that hid underground were all killed as plant life drilled through and collapsed whatever ceiling of whatever bunkers they were in.

The plant life that was close enough to deep waters, which they knew how deep to go, uprooted and ran on roots mangled together to form limbs that had grown to ridiculous lengths and proportions. Nothing could stand in their way: they crushed, mangled, ripped, demolished whatever was in their path. What free and functioning militaries were still alive were mobilized to these areas instead of helping the natural disaster locations.

Day 4: The plant life, using organic armor/weapons, sheer abundance and natural disasters, have wiped out the coastal cities and retreated along with the flora from the rest of the world. Natural disasters are still abundant as the landscape was so heavily devastated from the plant life burrowing through it from almost every area of the surface. What survivors remain are horrified to see that the earth itself is spewing out all of the dead. Be it limb, organ, bloody patch of soil, the ground spits all of it back up onto the surface.

Day 5: At exactly 3:14am universal time on Monday the red sun supernovas and engulfs the solar system. All life forms that weren't many layers deep into a planet's crust are incinerated and their life essence is absorbed into the sun.

Flashback: The Start of Our Solar System: The sun tells its surrounding planets that in so many eons it will supernova and burn the entire system in the process. But it tells the planets that if they specifically grow and cultivate high energy life on their surfaces, if it is enough energy then the sun can absorb it and go back to what it should be. As reward for their compliance the sun will give advanced warning when it is time to harvest. All the planets besides Pluto agree.

Back to Day 5: The Earth snickers as all of its life energy, its flora deep underground in burrows or in deep waters, has survived the gluttonous sun's expansion. Earth's life lies dormant now, waiting for the sun to go back to what it should be.

Aeons Pass: The red giant sun lets out a heavy sigh and says “Ah hell, you know what? I am still hungry as shit”. It then collapses in upon itself, becoming a back hole that swallows every planet in its system. “Gotta live that star life,” the black hole says matter-of-fact-ly.
