Two Birds

The Vulture and the Raven

By ZeePublished 2 months ago 3 min read

There was once a raven that traveled by it's self, soaring through the endless skies from islands to cities. Even though it lived free it always felt incomplete, a gapping hole in its heart.

In a kettle of vultures one bird felt disconnected, flying through one battle field to another, even with all it needed it was still missing something. Living with a bleeding heart.

One day as the raven flew through a forgotten hunting field she saw a vulture staring at the far north, standing away from its flock.

Feeling eyes on him the vulture turned searching for the source of the gaze, on its east he spotted the raven. "What are you staring at?" Asked the vulture, "If you think you can have my food then you are sorely mistaken, you won't make it out with all your feathers intact." The vultures feathers ruffled as his beady eyes sized up the visitor.

The raven shook her head "No I am not here for your dining, I have lived and traveled long enough to know never fight for food with a fellow scavenger."

"Then what do you want? Staring makes it seem like you want to pick a fight." The vulture came close to the raven.

"I was just staring at our similarities, we might not be the same type of birds yet our similarities run deep." The raven speculated.

"Our similarities are like every other birds, wings, two feet and beaks so I do not see what makes it so special you just have to observe." The vulture held a bored tone as he spoke, moving away from the raven returning to its lunch.

"That's where you are wrong, there are other similarities they are just not visible to the eye." The raven walked around the vulture.

"Please do share." Croaked the vulture.

"Your eyes hold the same emptiness as I feel, you too have a hole in your heart, one that can only be filled by true happiness." The raven lulled as it spread its wings flapping them, taking for the skies leaving the vulture behind.

Continuing her endless journey.

Hours have passed since the raven took for the skies and now the sun was blazing, she was starting to think maybe she should land and continue her travels the next morning. As she thought of this a large shadow appeared covering her head.

In a panic she swerved to the side her mind racing with fear, looking up she saw a large wing with equally as large feathers. Speeding ahead to get a clearer view of the large bird it took her seconds to realize the large wing belonged to the vulture.

"Why did you follow me?" The ravens voice held a shocked tone.

"You were right, I am in pain, I'm lonely. But so are you, so I decided to follow you so I can try and heal your pain and loneliness hoping in return mine will fade too."

With a caw the raven sped up.

"Hurry then, we must reach the city of Babylon before winter!" Yelled the raven.

With that the raven and vulture began their journey together, spent their lives traveling. The vulture stayed by the ravens side as years went by and they grew older, till the day the raven closed their eyes for the last time.

The vulture took her body, flew up to the Teygan mountain into a cave far deep inside the mountain, where they have once stayed during a big storm.

"In your next life no matter what creature you are born as continue to be the wonderful soul you are, I will always love you."

With that the vulture flew off, it spent the rest of its years lonely yet again but still feeling content.

Even though the raven is gone the vulture will forever cherish their time together.
