"Well, this is not off to a great start." Mumbling to myself as I got out of bed. Hazel was the last person that needed to by taken right now. This was not the best situation to be in. How would I even do this? I have only been in the magic world for ten years. So much less than Hazel.
The banging on the door brought me back to the real world. “Hey! There are no parties allowed in the building! Turn whatever that is off!”
Now that is not what I needed either but maybe what they thought happened could shed some light on how to fix this. So, I did something I should not have, I answered the door.
“I don’t know who you are yelling at, but my roommate and I have been asleep for about an hour now.” I did my best to sound groggy and squinted my eyes as if the light in the hallway was hurting them.
He looked confused and seemed less angry, “I got multiple complaints about loud noises coming from this room. Do you guys have the TV on or something? Any music going? It seems quiet now but maybe that is because you heard me coming or something.” The tone in his voice had more of an accusation that a question but I went with it anyway.
“Look uh mister, I don’t know your name or your role here in the building, but I would be glad to share that with the dean tomorrow morning when I show up late because someone decided to play a prank their first night on campus. I can’t help that I was sleeping, and I don’t have super hearing, so I don’t know what to tell you.” I started to shut the door, but I thought I better end this on a positive note, “Do you mind if I go back to sleep?”
“The name is Connor, and no I don’t mind. Just keep the volume down, okay? He gave me a small glare that had a small smirk to it.
“Don’t worry, when I mumble to myself, I will whisper.” I gave him a chuckle as I closed the door.
“Ameliah, we have a problem!” The voice made me yelp as I turned around and nearly ran over Chloe.
“Give a girl a warning before you do that! Shifting in uninvited is not a pretty look on you! Chloe, it is good to see you!” I gave her a tight hug and then the alarms in my head went off, “You are not here for good news, are you?” I knew the answer as I watched her face fall.
“No, I am not Mel. The Gorgon has escaped. We thought it might come after you or Hazel since you two are the ones who caught it after the Aqrabuamelu’s surrendered. Even after the spell on them was broken, they fought viciously.” Chloe shivered at the thought of the battle that ended just over six years ago.
“Uh, well I think it did. Hazel was taken.” I pointed to the scorch mark and watched the blood drain from Chloe’s face, “I didn’t know what to think at first but now that you are here, I think we have a real problem on our hands.”
“Yes, I would say we have a very real problem and that the Elder Council will want to know about this. They will want us to keep them updated on the plan of getting her back.” Chloe spoke with sadness and worry
