To Jon, when he first kissed Carolyn, it felt like a melting kiss. A really amazing kiss, he couldn’t resist. Jon tried explaining his situation with love by telling his story of meeting the girl he gave into and describing it being very special and meaningful. Jon describes making love to Carolyn, comparing it to “milk and honey becoming one fluid.” Jon seemed thrilled to have this child, because he would be a father and keep his job as mentioned in the story. Mr. Delacourt’s brother, who is the minister, had married Jon and Carolyn, and Jon was very happy. For Jon, it was considered to be “the best day of their lives so far,” as in a chapter to a new beginning, basically. It seems as if Jon, at the beginning, is more excited to be a father compared to Carolyn. Carolyn seems a bit nervous at first. It seems like Jon is willing to give his all to Carolyn and support her while being pregnant. Carolyn seems to be stubborn at first, and it seems as though as if she wants to be independent with her baby. Jon seems to be more in love with Carolyn, than Carolyn with Jon. It is very obvious that Jon has strong feelings for Carolyn because he says that he wants to be able to express how he truly feels about her and to be able to call her “honey” without feeling shame. Jon loves Carolyn because he is willing to prove to Carolyn that he loves her, in which Carolyn asks Jon to prove his love to her.
Jon is very supportive to Carolyn because he tries to encourage her that they don’t have it that bad, due to struggles of exit paperwork occurring. Jon says why not love each other and love their baby, as well. Basically, he feels that they should be thankful for what they have. It really seems like Jon tries to live optimistically. Every relationship faces obstacles, in which Carolyn mentions to Jon that he is a soft bunny and that when he came to the Tarp he was more like a lion. When Carolyn told this to Jon, it seemed to really hurt his feelings because of the way she was acting towards him. All he ever tries to do is be there for her, and she argues and disputes with him about him being either too soft or too rough. Carolyn doesn’t seem to accept Jon at this moment during this argument. Carolyn really doesn’t seem to accept Jon at various moments because he really puts his effort in being there for her and supporting her throughout the good times and the bad times. But with Carolyn it really doesn’t seem that way, it seems as if she doesn’t love Jon the same way he loves her. It seems as though Jon has stronger feelings for Carolyn than Carolyn for Jon. With the argument that Jon and Carolyn had, even if Carolyn said that is not the reason why she wants to leave so badly, it seems like it really is the reason. Jon seems to have a reason, by the fact that she was the one who started the argument and somehow she doesn’t want to get over it and be happy with Jon. It seems as though Jon really does love Carolyn very much that he doesn’t want to give up on their love and he really believes they can work things out together. But it seems as though to Carolyn if she gets to close into falling in love it will be harder for her to let go. Carolyn seems to be stubborn and seems to want to only depend on herself. It seems as though as if Carolyn only wants to depend on herself and have really no one by her side to protect her. On the contrary, Jon seems to really have strong feelings for Carolyn and loves her enough to be there for her at all times. Jon wants to be happy and have a great life with Carolyn and their baby, but Carolyn seems to be too stubborn. Even Jon says, “ It seemed to him that more than ever like she was some sort of “malcontentish” girl who would never be happy. Jon really wants to be happy, but Carolyn refuses to be happy for some reason. It really seems as though as if Carolyn is afraid to be too close to Jon. If she gets too close to Jon then she will fall in love with him. Carolyn seems to be afraid of love, so that’s why she wants to keep her distance because if she is close then she knows that she won’t be able to change her mind. So when Carolyn left, it really seemed to tear Jon’s heart apart. Jon really misses Carolyn very much. His thoughts were of her and he had several memories of the moments they spent together. Jon said that when Carolyn left, she took herself and their baby with her.
When Jon recieved Carolyn’s letter he was somewhat nervous, in which he even said he was already bummed out by starting to read it. Jon feels this way because he knows he misses her and just even reading a letter of her makes him melancholy and also makes him miss her. Jon had a flashback of how beautiful and smart she looked like to him, in his perspective. With this we can see that he really misses her and has these true, strong feelings for her. Jon keeps thinking about how nobody has loved her the way he does and he is reminiscing the moments they had together. He feels like it is his fault of why she left, but in reality it’s not because it was Carolyn’s decision to leave. For example, in the text it says, “ last years Christmas party, of Carolyn hugging me from behind with her cute face appearing beneath my armpit, which made me remember how after the party in our Privacy Tarp we played a certain game that was a memorable night, with us watching the snow fall from the much coveted window seat, in which we sat snuggling around midnight.” Right here we can see that Jon was thinking about her, a lot. All his thoughts were based on her and their moments they both shared together and how much he misses her. Jon gets these constant flashbacks of Carolyn, because he really misses her a lot. Other people tell Jon that he should be there for Carolyn, but what they don’t know is that Carolyn was the one who made the decision of leaving Jon for a while. Jon wanted to be happy with Carolyn and live with her and be near her as well. He wanted the best of the best with Carolyn because he really loves her very much that he is willing to do anything for her. He also loves her so much he was willing to let her make her decisions by leaving and letting her go for a while. Jon really has these strong emotions for Carolyn because throughout the story all that is on his mind is Carolyn. He misses her a lot when they are not together anymore. He constantly gets these particular flashbacks of Carolyn, in which makes him miss her very much and makes him wonder what went wrong or was it his fault.
Jon is a hero because he loves Carolyn so much he is willing to change for her. For example, in the text Jon tells Carolyn, “ Honey, I do not really think we have it all that bad, why not just go home and love each other and our baby when he or she comes, and make the best of all blessings what we have been given?” Right here we can see that Jon really wants the best for Carolyn and his baby. Carolyn is too stubborn and doesn’t really accept that from Jon as much as he wants her to open up to him. Jon even tells Carolyn that he loves her and Carolyn responds to him telling him to prove it it her. Jon really goes to the beyond and extreme of proving it to her that he really does love her because he wants the best for their baby and relationship. Jon is like a knight and will do anything to fight for his beloved. Jon was even willing to change his lifestyle for Carolyn, in which he really did change his lifestyle for her. Carolyn was too stubborn to change her lifestyle for him, so therefore it is certain that Jon loves and cares for Carolyn much more than Carolyn does for Jon. Carolyn seems to love Jon but not as much as Jon loves Carolyn. Jon was always there for Carolyn and respected all the decisions and choices she made within the time they were together. Therefore, Jon can be described as chivalric for the hard times they have gone through within their relationship.
In the end they came back to each other by surprise. Jon has been there for her and has respected every decision that Carolyn has made. Jon was patient and did wait for her love. In the end Carolyn wrote that she loved Jon and that brought him to the conclusion that there is hope with their relationship. There is hope with love between Carolyn and Jon. Jon was strong and patient and still until the end he still loves Carolyn.
