The crossing of the cold forests was a long journey that took you under tall and spiky trees where persistent was the fog, to trees shorter and leafier that became sparse where plainer lands came across, with their glimmering and luxuriant grass.
To keep all of that lush liveliness was the Eternal River that bathed the riverbanks from up the mountains to the valley and the flatlands below. It made everything alive and well, exploding with majesty and salubrity but even if it was the longest one it was not the only one.
Majestic was also the discovery of the ancient and legendary Cave of the Rivers where all of them were born, the Eternal one and its brothers. A place so solemn that the first one to find it and experience it, died from ecstasy. The cave was dark, scampering with obscure secrets on its blackest corners that were still menaced by the lights and its chasing of the shadows.
Despite being an underground cove the humidity did not make it its home. The vegetation was plump and lush, a shade of green strong with its salubriousness that was too hard to imagine even for the most inventive mind.
That's why the nomad community inhabiting those areas decided to erect there a sanctuary that they renamed the Abyss of the Kings, a necropolis for the departed rulers of that semi-abandoned Realm of the Forests.
That opera was quite a commitment for the nomads since it was the first time that they decided to build such a massive structure that would have distracted them from their neverending need to travel.
They opted to make that their definitive home until the construction of the underground city was completed and only its deepest portion was still surviving and thriving thanks to the change of the sweet and harsh seasons, where still fell the rain of ancient times which gave life to the people that once were protected by those wise and kind Kings which now repose in the sacred grotto.
These inhabitants lived thanks to their generous lands, waters, greenery and its flocks, and even though all of their monarchs were dead, they were happy with what Nature had left for them.
Not even in the middle of another dark and cold night, they were discouraged to prosper in their frugality. They understood that the richness in which they lived when they were travelling merchants that visited every country in their world was not the only one they could meet and appreciate.
Their earnings were lower, but the bond between each family, even if it practised a different cult, grew stronger and stronger, there was less fuss and all of the little and big skirmishes that happened among them all of the time went diminishing and fading into peace.
Their hearts were no more swelling with repressed rage, but were light and delighted with each other's presence. The only sadness that they felt was the absence of their beloved royals who give them the chance to survive the famine that otherwise would have wiped them out from existence, not too many years ago before they dismantled the integrity of the population to become an itinerant folk.
Only a cryptic prophecy to light their future would have seen them reunited with their lords, a prophecy that wanted to lead them through the Pats of infinite ends, a fabled path narrated in their folklore and that would have opened only with the awakening of the Emperors Mountain, a volcano situated on the outer end of the Realm were everything was dry. Should they attempt this perilous adventure even if they've been able to thrive without their Kings?
Remains of their culture arrived till our days believe them to be still lost in that path of multiple finales.
