Traveling Trina

A Story

Trina walked everywhere. It was the first rule she lived by. Trina had already walked over 3,000 miles over the last year and a half and turned down at least a hundred rides. That was rule number three: accept no rides from anyone, for she wasn’t a hitchhiker.

Trina avoided small towns and only went into big cities. That was rule number seven on her list of rules. Never go into a town where people were more likely to remember her face. Just in case someone came asking questions. Also, because there were no 24-hour stores.

This brings us to Trina’s most important rule: Don’t go anywhere during the day, walk at night—rule number ten. This was so she wouldn’t burn up in the sun, as she followed rule number two: only eat derelicts.
