Sarah very average looking, upbeat and determined, stepped into the elevator. Her heart racing and her brow full of sweat as her nerves was starting to get the best of her. She had a job interview in the penthouse of a high-rise building, and she had to take the elevator to get there.
The elevator was old and creaky, but she tried to push her fears aside and pressed the button for the top floor.
As the elevator ascended, Sarah felt her nerves getting the better of her. Suddenly, the elevator jerked and came to a stop. She stumbled against the wall, her heart pounding in her chest. She tried to press the emergency button, but there was no response. Panic started to set in as she tried to pry the doors open, but they wouldn't budge. She was trapped.
As time passed, Sarah's fears grew stronger. She could feel the elevator swaying, and she could hear strange noises coming from the walls. Her mind played tricks on her, making her think that the elevator was plummeting to the ground, causing her to scream and cry uncontrollably. The experience took her to her childhood with the rap song playing in her head "My mind's playing tricks on me." by the Geto Boys.
Sarah started to lose track of time, and her only company was the elevator. She would talk to the walls, begging for someone to help her, but the only response she ever received was the haunting sound of the elevator creaking and groaning. Sarah pressed all of the emergency buttons and received no response.
Hours turned into what felt like an eternity, and Sarah's desperation grew. She started to hit the walls with anything she could find, trying to break through them. She screamed until her throat was raw, hoping that someone would hear her.
Suddenly, the elevator doors opened, and Sarah stumbled out, weak and disoriented. She looked around, trying to figure out where she was. To her relief, she realized that she was in the lobby of the building.
Sarah was still shaken by her experience and tried to make her way out of the building as quickly as possible. As she walked down the street, she felt like she was being followed. She turned around, but there was no one there. She dismissed it as her imagination, but the feeling persisted.
As she turned the corner, she saw a figure in the distance. It was a woman, dressed in a flowing white dress. Sarah couldn't make out her face, but she knew that the woman was staring right at her. Sarah started to walk faster, her heart racing.
The woman continued to follow her, always staying a few feet behind. Sarah tried to shake her off, but the woman was relentless. Sarah's fear grew stronger, and she realized that the woman was not human. She was a ghost.
Sarah started to run, but the ghost kept pace with her. She could feel the ghost's breath on her neck, and she knew that she was in danger. She turned around, hoping to confront the ghost, but as she did, she tripped and fell.
The ghost loomed over her, and Sarah closed her eyes, expecting the worst. But then, she heard the ghost speak. "I didn't mean to scare you," the ghost said. "I was trapped in that elevator once too, and I know how terrifying it can be."
The ghost helped Sarah to her feet and led her away from the building. Sarah was grateful for the ghost's help, but she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She turned around to thank the ghost, but she had vanished. Sarah fell to her knees and began to cry because she realized she never even made it to her interview.
Sarah never forgot her experience in the elevator or her encounter with the ghost. She always wondered if the ghost had been trying to help her escape all along. She never took an elevator again, never applied for jobs on the 2nd floor or higher. She also made a vow to always take the stairs, no matter how many floors she had to climb.
