Touch of Gold

This is the story of Midas, a king of Greece. He was very greedy. His favourite thing was to collect as much gold as possible and keep counting it. He lived in a big palace, but he wanted an even bigger palace. He had many servants, but he wanted more servants. And he had a lovely daughter, whom he loved the most. There was a beautiful garden in front of his palace. His daughter loved playing in that garden. She liked beautiful fruits and flowers very much. But Midas used to think on seeing them that how good it would have been if all these were made of gold. He used to spend most of the day in his treasury and kept thinking that somehow he should get more treasure.

One day a god appeared in front of him. He asked, Midas, you have so much, then why are you sad

Because I want to get more. Midas said with folded hands.

Okay, then ask for what you want the god asked again.

Midas was very happy to hear the gods words. He started thinking what he should ask the god for so that he could get maximum benefit. After racking his brain for a while, he said, I want a lot. Is it possible that any object turns into gold by my touch Then I will collect a lot of gold.

It is definitely possible. If this is what you want, then it is fine. Tomorrow morning after waking up, whatever you touch will turn into gold. The god said and disappeared.

Midas could not believe his ears and what he had just seen. A god had given him such a great boon He was so excited that he could not sleep at night. He was wondering when the morning would come so that he could turn everything into gold by touching it. A golden palace, a golden garden, everything around would be made of gold, he would become the richest person in the world. Finally, dreaming all this, he fell asleep. When he woke up in the morning, he remembered the gods words. When he got up, his bed turned into gold. Seeing this, he jumped with joy. He ran and touched every object in his room and in a moment, it turned into gold and started shining. He went mad, ran outside the room and started touching every object and turning it into gold. His entire palace turned into gold. He started laughing loudly with joy, I have become the richest man in the world Then he ran towards the garden, and there also he turned all the flowers, leaves, trees, plants, the entire garden into gold.

He got very hungry after running so much. He ran inside the palace to eat food. Various types of dishes were decorated on the dining table. Quickly he picked some grapes and put them in his mouth. But, what was this, there were golden grapes in his mouth His teeth almost broke. Whatever he tried to eat, it turned into gold and he was not able to eat it. Then he tried to drink water but it was like molten gold in his mouth. He had to throw it out immediately and sat down sadly wondering how he would eat now. Just then his daughter came crying from outside, Father, my lovely beautiful garden is completely ruined. The flowers and leaves are no longer colorful and fragrant, everything is yellow and hard. Saying this, she came crying and hugged Midas. Before he could say anything, his beloved daughter turned into gold in front of his eyes.

Seeing this, Midas started crying bitterly and screamed, O God I dont want this boon. Please, take this boon back. In this way, he kept crying for a long time and kept remembering the god. The god again appeared before him and asked him to go and take a bath in the river near his palace. While bathing, the magic flowed from his hands and mixed with the water of the river, and he became free from the magic.

When he came back to his garden, he was very happy to see that everything was back to normal. When he saw his daughter alive and well coming out from inside, tears of joy came to his eyes. He had learnt the lesson that greed is a very bad thing and that the colorful world and love are more valuable than gold.
