Too Late For White Flags

My first attempt at a Drabble. Thank you, Rachel Deeming for the inspiration.

By Paul StewartPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

The last glimmer of light diminished in the sky above, on the eve of war. Thom and Gwen looked at each other for the last time, free from the blood, death and misery. The screech of devastating machines of their creation eviscerated the land ahead.

If they were successful. Those who sought to fight for their rights. Questions would be asked. Questions with no easy or convenient answers. Thom and Gwen stood by their convictions, believing there was no other way. As their enemy raised the white flag of surrender in the distance, too late, war quickly turned to genocide.

I agree with Gabriel! Is there symbolic significance to the names Thom & Gwen ?

Spreading a Drabble fire, I see! This was very well done! Drabble on, good sir! Drabble on!

Drabbles do seem to suit you well!! I loved the intensity of this piece and that final line was chilling! Great work Paul, I love the literary exploration you're doing!

Grim, vivid, brilliant! A minute but very believable window into a tragic world. You're making me want to join in the Drabble revival, Paul! :)

A bit o' this, a dribble o' that - oh, DRABBLE! Please pardon the interjection of my weird humor. Great job of effectively conveying a very dark picture under the constraints at hand. Capital job, sir!

Oo, super powerful! I love drabbles so much. They can pack so much energy into such small spaces. Love how fast this goes from melancholic to terrifying. Avoiding future deaths with deaths now never works. Awesome job!

    Will we ever learn?

Great Drabble, Paul. Killing each other en mass is so medieval. But here we are, still doing it in the 21st century, with much more powerful equipment and weapons.

I remember this - that mostly, people who seek genocide, still believe they are making the world better. Which means there is hope, isnt there, that they might care about others?
