This is a love story- or is it a ghost story?

Liv and Adam had this beautiful relationship; They had the most cliché relationship. They met in pre- kindergarten and became best friends. By their senior year of high school, they finally became the cutest couple. Graduating as high school sweethearts.

Liv and Adam managed to get through University. After university, they got married and bought a beautiful home out in the countryside.

Unfortunately, one stormy night, the couple were on their way home from dinner with friends. When a deer ran out into the road at the last second. Adam nearly missed the deer and slid off the road into the river and drowned.

Rumour has it that they crashed on the border of their property, and their spirits are stuck. For over 40 years, their spirits have been roaming the grounds of their home.

The property has been vacant since. There have been inquiries since, but once the buyers hear that the previous owners died on the property and are haunting it, there are no takers after that.

Until Sam, that is. Once Sam pulled up to the house, she fell in love at first sight. Even hearing about the couple who died, she didn't care. The house was perfect.

Sam's an artist. So, the house is perfect for her- out in the countryside, so no neighbours for miles. Big, bright, beautiful windows facing the river. This allows Sam to paint with minimal distractions.

Amber and Jack, Sam's best friends, helped move her in.

"Girl, I don't know how you're going to live in a haunted house," Amber said, pouring herself and Sam a glass of wine.

Sam takes the glass from Amber; "I don't believe in those bullshit ghost stories. Besides, the rumour is the grounds are haunted, not the house."

~~~~~~~
"How's your haunted house going?"
"Is that what you are calling me about, Amber?" Sam puts the phone on speaker and puts it on the counter.
Sam moves a few boxes around in the kitchen to help with unpacking.
"Well, you've been there a few days now. Something has to have happened!" Amber is hoping for something to happen.
Sam rolls her eyes and gives a small, annoyed laugh; "Amber, it's just a story. What happened to that couple was tragic. I'm sure they have something better to do than to haunt the grounds."
"Yeah, but how cool would it be if the grounds were haunted, though? Could you imagine what that could do for your art?"
"How does a haunted property help me paint?"
"I don't know, could be inspirational!? You could paint their ghostly form?"
"That's just morbid! What the actual fuck, dude?"
"Oh, come on, dude. You know that sometimes the best work happens when something 'morbid' happens."
"Yeah, but that's not how I do my work. My inspiration comes from nature, not the walking dead."
"Death is part of nature."
"There's something seriously wrong with you." Both of them started laughing.
"Yeah, but you love it."
Something in the field catches Sam's eye. She moves towards the window and sees someone trudging through the field.
"Amber.. I have to let you go. Someone's walking through my backyard," Sam panicking.
"OOOOOH, maybe it's your ground mates."
"Haha, very funny. I'll call you back," Sam gets off the phone with Amber and rushes to the door leading to the yard.
Sam runs to the back fence, and the person's just gone. How could that even be? The fence isn't really that far from the house. It took Sam 45 seconds from hanging up the phone to the fence. Looking over the fence is a 5-acre field, a 5-10 min walk to the treeline.
Sam frantically looked around because no one could walk that fast. So, where did the person go? Sam was about to turn around to go back to the house when a man just appeared right in front of her.
Sam couldn't get out a scream or even turn and run, even though she wanted to. She was just stuck, frozen in her own body. Then just like that, boom, gone.
Sam didn't take any chances; she took off running back to the house, locked the door behind her and called the police. Within 20 minutes, the police searched the property and took Sam's statement. After 2 hours, the police found nothing. No evidence that anyone was even there.
"Do you have security cameras?" One of the police officers asked.
"No. I just moved in. It was never a thought to have cameras. Especially out in the country," Sam replied. A little worried that she might have made a mistake in buying this property.
"Maybe that may be a good idea to invest in some cameras. In the meantime, is there someone who could stay with you, or could stay with someone?"
"Uhm, I could call my friend. She and her husband could come for the night. Should I be worried?"
"I don't think so. Might just be someone playing a practical joke. Just want to be safe, then sorry."
"Some joke."
"Would you like an officer to stay with you while you wait for your friends to come?"
"Sure, mine's well. You are already here."
An hour later, Amber and Jack came over with a bottle of wine and a box of pizza.
"At this rate, we might as well move in with you," Jack winked and walked through the door Sam had opened for them.
"HAHA, very funny." Sam stuck her tongue out at Jack, and he did the same back.
~~~~~~~~

"I was doing some more research about that couple who died in the river and the property," Amber stood up off the couch and walked over to Sam with her phone in hand.

"More myths and rumours?" Sam nervously chuckled.

"Probably. But after what happened earlier today, is it really a myth or rumours?"

Sam sarcastically rolls her eyes and rolls her hand; "Go on."

Amber brings up the history of the property: "It's said if you die on the property, your soul gets stuck here. There is only one way to get your soul to pass over."

"Do you even know that you are dead? Let alone knowing your soul is stuck on this Earth," Jack interjected.

"That's the problem. If you knew why or even that you are dead, there wouldn't be spirits stuck on Earth," said Amber.

"Like a ghost?" asked Sam.

"Same thing really," Amber said.

"Okay, but who was that man I saw walking in the field, and who basically scared me?"

"According to your description of him and the photo of the couple who died, that would have been Adam," Amber brought up a photo of the couple.

Sam takes the phone from Amber to look closer at the photo of Adam: "That is most definitely him, but what does he want? Why is his soul stuck? Where is Liv? Is she here too? You said whoever dies on the property is stuck here."

"I don't know, but I'm actually invested and want to know myself," Amber getting a little too excited about this little ordeal.

"Same, actually. I'm not usually a believer of this kind of stuff, but the fact that this man-ghost had basically jumped you in the field. I kind of want to know myself why Adam is here," Jack says.

"Do you want to pull out your Ouiji board, Amber?" Sam asked.

Amber is trying to look shocked about this request: "What do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb. I know you brought it with you, silly. Go get it," Sam chuckled.

Amber rolls her eyes and sighs. Sarcastically says, "Fine, it's in my bag."

Amber walks over to her bag and pulls out her Ouiji board.

"Was that so hard?" Sam playfully says.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
An hour later, Amber had set up the dining room for the Ouiji board.
"Alrighty, everything is good to go. I saged the house, especially this room, so we should be good," Sam and Jack followed Amber into the dining room.
"Is this even safe?" Jack asked.
"Don't look so stressed, Jack," Amber reassured him. "I promise everything will be fine. As long as we close the board when we are done, everything will be fine."
"Alright, if you say so." Everyone sat down at the table.
"What happens now?" Jack asks.
"We call on the devil and hopefully one of us gets possessed," Amber says.
Jack looking mortified, Amber quickly says, "Babe, I'm kidding! We just call for the spirit of Adam and see what he says."
"That's it? How would we know if it's him?"
"We don't. But we know some things about him. So, we will ask questions that he will only know," Amber continues to explain how everything works.
After Amber explains how this works they get started.
It took almost four hours but eventually they were able to get in contact with Adam. He didn't really say much more then what they already knew. Adam is aware he is dead. He was only trying to warn Sam, not to scare her.
Amber tried to ask him why he was trying to warn Sam about, and he said that she looks a lot like his wife. The car accident wasn't an accident. There was a deer, yes, but he swerved out of the way, and the breaks failed.
Someone was after Liv. She didn't die on the property, she managed to get out of the car and crossed the property, and she died. Adam had told them about the person who was stalking her before she died. Adam had told them it's not safe for Sam to be here.
Adam asked them to help set him free so he can move on and be with Liv in the afterlife. They agreed to help Adam crossover to the otherside if he agrees to tell them why Sam is in danger and how to stop them.
Quisndently burning the house down sets all the spirits go on the property and puts Sam out of danger.
