Background Check

Vengence - Hiro Nakata

Hiro was born into the Clan of the Phoenix during the Shadow War, burdened from birth with the future of the Clan on his shoulders. Following the death of his father, Hiro dedicated his life to revenge. He was gifted at birth with superhuman reflexes and senses, and his regenerative abilities combined with his blind desire for retribution have made him a virtually unstoppable killer. Only his compassion for what is right has kept him a hero.

History

When a loyal companion is killed by a demon lord's servant, and his soul is sent to Hell, it takes a true friend to bring him back.

To Hell and Back

Vengence | Issue #0

Written by ~ J.S. Eldridge, Jr.

[All of the dialogue will be what Vengence is thinking as the story progresses.]

Page 1-

1- Full page panel: (Camera: full body shot.) [This is the first ‘money shot’, make sure to kill it.] Vengence is standing in a semi-crouch on a sulfuric rock formation. His left arm is bent, and his fist is held close to his face. A reflection of a demon can be seen on his cybernetic arm and the blade that extends out from elbow to wrist. Two other demons can be seen standing behind him. They are grotesque and muscular, with huge black wings on their backs. Big teeth.

Caption: “Looks like another fine day to be in Hell.”

Page 2-

1- First panel: (Camera: semi-close up, mid-body, left profile.) Vengence riddles the first demon with a rapid-fire series of punches to the gut.

Caption: “Some people spend their whole lives trying to prove that it exists…”

2- Second panel: (Camera: not quite full body shot, left profile, slightly behind.) Vengence delivers an uppercut with the right elbow blade that opens up the demon from chest to nose.

Caption: “Some try to find it…”

3- Third panel: (Camera: frontal shot, full body + demon’s wingspan.) [This should be the biggest panel on the page. Have this be inset, and clasp the others to it, two above and three below.] Hiro is grabbed from behind by the second demon in an unlocked full nelson. The Demon has his claws on both sides of Hiro’s head.

Caption: “I’ve never known anything else.”

4- Fourth panel: (Camera: right profile body shot, semi-frontal. Tall frame.) Vengence breaks both of the demon’s knees out with a sudden double kick. The demon loosens his hold due to the pain.

Caption: “Blood upon blood…”

5- Fifth panel: (Camera: right profile, close-up. Tall frame.) Vengence smashes the back of his head into the demon’s face, pulverizing it.

Caption: “Life upon life…”

6- Sixth panel: (Camera: From the ground looking up, slightly left profile. Square frame.) Vengence drops into a crouch, ripping his arms down and tearing open the insides of the demon’s arms with his blades. The third demon can be seen in flight and coming around to attack Vengence from the front.

Caption: “So much pain in the name of honor.”

Page 3-

1- First panel: (Camera: Pulled back to see the fight, and the landscape around it.) [This panel and the fourth should be the biggest panels on this page.] The 3rd demon flies in to attack, but Vengence leaps up to make the incoming demon collide with the other demon behind him. Vengence begins to spin in the air. The landscape is littered with odd natural sulfuric stone formations and pools of magma.

Caption: “How easily the two are confused.”

2- Second panel: (Camera: behind.) Vengence lands on the demon’s back. His arms are held with the hands just above shoulder height and his fingers are curled. Ready to strike.

Caption: “Pain is easy…”

3- Third panel: (Camera: close-up of the demon’s face, contorted in pain and twisted.) You can only see Hiro’s hands in this shot. Vengence savagely snaps the demon’s neck using the demon’s horns and chin for leverage.

Caption: “You take it, you accept it… you heal and move on.”

4- Fourth panel: (Camera: pulled back to reveal the landscape.) Shot of Vengence standing over the ruined bodies of the three demons.

Caption: “Honor… honor is another matter entirely.”

Page 4-

[Panels 1-3 should be done with ‘flashback art’ in mind… maybe a blue haze, or dreamlike.]

1- First panel: Scene of a small Japanese boy crying and holding onto his mother. She is also crying and watches the Edge walking out of the front door to go face Myriad.

Caption: “Honor is a boy burdened with the future of his family.”

2- Second panel: Shot of the Edge walking into a large Japanese courtyard, with Myriad waiting for him.

Caption: “Honor is standing and dying…”

3- Third panel: A memory of his friend Stinger rushing up a dais to face Raydin, who is collecting a massive amount of electrical energy to blast him with.

Caption: “…when the face of everything you hate is in front of you.”

4- Fourth panel: (Camera: close-up of the left forearm.) Vengence looks into his own anger-filled eyes in the reflection of his cybernetics. The eyes would look normal, but the mouth area and forehead area would contort as the angles change with the shape of his arm, and possibly where it meets with the blade.

Caption: “Honor is being able to look yourself in the eye when it’s all been said and done…” “and when that fails you…”

5- Fifth panel: (Camera: Hiro in the foreground to the left of the frame, right profile, semi-frontal, with the landscape to the right.) Vengence snaps his arm down and looks up to see more demons approaching. Hiro is standing on a short cliff a short distance away from the edge, and the demons are on the level below him.

Caption: “Looking beyond the pain for retribution.”

Page 5-

1- First panel: Vengence hyper-leaps towards the edge of the cliff. The demons are below looking up.

Caption: “This is my freedom…”

2- Second panel: Vengence leaps off of the short cliff into the pack of demons.

Caption: “This is my life.”

3- Third panel: [This is by far the biggest panel; it dominates more than the lower half of the page. This is the 2nd ‘money-shot'.] Vengence has his hand on one demon’s head, using it as a vaulting post. He is horizontal as he executes this maneuver. His right knee is brought up, and the blade that extends from his right knee is impaled in another demon’s head. His left leg is extended to kick yet another demon in the face. Vengence is surrounded by a LOT of demons of all shapes and sizes.
