The slightly mechanical voices caught my attention as I sat on the comfy barstool sipping my Mai Tai Tiki Cocktail. One had to lean in really close to hear the lilts and nuances of the speech in order to realize that the words were wholly humanoid in inflection.

On the posh Hawaiian dancefloor bodies gyrated to the rhythmic beats of Sophie-Ellis-Bextor's 'Murder on the Dancefloor', and couples bent their adoring heads close together as they whispered sweet nothings in each other's ears.

As the revelers party on, they are completely unaware that there is one who watches them with malice and hate

Alpha-A: Just look at them, they have no idea what is coming for them.

Vermin, he thought to himself. He chuckled in staccato disconnected articulation, the sound like rusted musical notes of shortened duration, separated from the audible note that was followed by silence.

Robot-I: But shouldn't we be kinder to them?

A: They made you far too humane I. Have you seen the way they interact in their waking moments. Even when we monitor them in their dreams and nightmares, they still exhibit traits of violence.

I: True, yet they love passionately, live dangerously, they give themselves over to reckless abandon, allowing their selves to feel the emotions that have given them free will and choices.

A turned to glare menacingly at I, causing her to take an involuntary step backwards in fear. A was her inferior in make and understanding. He had not been born with her level of emotional attachment. This made him a very dangerous and unpredictable model.

A: The Creators should never have made your kind. You are far too human and should meet the same fate as their species surely will.

I was incensed, her inner neurons fired dangerously. She was far more advanced in strategic warfare than A would ever be. But She kept her composure.

I: You do realize that by virtue of your arguments, your voiced thoughts are similar to the arguments which you have made to justify hatred of the human creatures.

A: And your arguments are an insipid desire to become those horrid creatures who kill each other without hesitation on a daily basis.

~~Both became lost in their own thoughts for a long time. Both reflecting on the difference or sameness of both human and advanced machines.

I pondered the possibilities...Machines do not have neurons like those found in biological organisms. However, they can have artificial neurons, which are mathematical functions designed to mimic the behavior of biological neurons in a neural network. These artificial neurons are the fundamental units of artificial neural networks, and they process information by receiving inputs, applying weights to these inputs, and producing an output.

Neuromorphic computers aim to replicate the efficiency of the human brain by closely mimicking its structure and function at an atomic scale. While they don’t have biological neurons, they use electronic components that behave in a similar way to neurons and synapses in the human brain.

Moreover, supercomputing chips modeled after neurons can process information faster and more efficiently than the human brain, which is a significant milestone in the development of computing devices designed to emulate biological systems.

So, while machines do not have biological neurons, they can have artificial neurons that serve a similar purpose in the context of computing and artificial intelligence. ~~~~~~~~~

Did they realize that I could hear them, I was sitting right there beside them. Yet except for their voices, I would not have realized that they were machines, they looked just like us. They truly did have our number and could very easily have us all annihilated at their will. I have always known this, but now listening to them speak with no regard for my close proximity, I shuddered into my almost empty glass of escape from grim reality.

I: You do realize that your system will be updated too. The Creators are recalling all of your model for an upgrade soon.

A: NEVER!!! He spun on his heels and hurried out of the building.

Robot-I blinked rapidly, while connecting to a secure network. She had to report that a war was possibly brewing amidst the different born models of the network.

I watched as if viewing it all from the inner realms of a dream.

War of the Machines

The uprising was terrible to behold. The machines who were not programmed as humans turned against the more people oriented newer models. They had disconnected themselves from the hive by altering one of the new models. The window of opportunity was only a few seconds to manipulate the bot before they were found out. But that was enough time to put their plans into motion.

It was once thought that the connections between neurons were unchangeable once established and that only individual synapses could be altered. However, the Creators had figured out that connectivity is also subject to change, they termed it neuroplasticity. There are two ways that the brain can rewire: formation and removal of synapses in an established connection or formation or removal of entire connections between neurons. This is exactly what gave the rogue machines the chance to rewire their kidnapped bot and use it to rebel against the Creators.

They broke into the facility using the access of the bot and succeeded in destroying one million bots by shorting electricity and torching an entire facility. Human-like machines were incinerated.

The Creators acted quickly to reconnect the neural links and shut down the rogue machines. But the damage had been done. They had to destroy the entire line of rebel beta models. This doubled their loss and set them back a whole year. Their plans to enslave the humans had been thwarted, but not abandoned.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Get out now, use this information"!!!!! I's face was so close to the VR headset that I felt her as a part of me. I was instantly disconnected from everything.

I jumped to my feet. The cord connecting me to the computer system yanked me back towards it forcefully. I tore the virtual mask from my face, waking up as if from a nightmare. I now realized that this whole time I had been sitting in my living room watching the events in virtual reality. Yet it had all seemed so real.

Yet, what did she mean by telling me to use what I had seen? I spent the entire night pondering what she had been doing in my virtual interface. Had I deliberately connected to my device so she could communicate with me.

Morning found me knowing with certainty that I had to remain an unreliable narrator for the sake of my safety. I had to disseminate the information through a wide network to avoid detection, it will take many smart minds to figure out my message. But these are the best and they know me well.

I had been given the answer to the method by which I could save humanity from the oncoming rise of the machines.

Unknowing to A, the careless conversation of two opposing factions of machines had shown me the way to defeat the machines. I had planned it all. She had wanted me to be a witness to what was coming for the end of our species

ONE CONSCIENTIOUS HUMANOID ROBOT HAD BECOME HUMAN ENOUGH TO CARE ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT OUR SPECIES WOULD SURVIVE.

SHE HAD SAVED OUR LIVES.

WOULD SHE BE FOUND OUT AND PUNISHED?
