The vanished town

Part one

By Miracle BukolaPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

The road was long, empty and stretching endlessly under the cold silver light of the moon. I gripped the my steering tightly,as my tired eyes searched for any sign of civilization. My GPS had long failed me leaving me to rely on fading road signs and my instinct. The out of nowhere a town emerged from the fog-small,quiet and oddly welcoming .

I pulled into the main street, feeling relived. The town had a vintage charm, with old fashioned street lamps and old fashioned storefronts.A diner at the corner had it neon sign flicking "Open 24hrs" but there was something off,no cars, movement, not even a even stray dog in sight.

I parked and stepped out from my car, and pushed open the door the dinner nearest to me. A very strange scene unfolded in my view ; there were served food some half eaten, others untouched and coffee still steaming.

Hello? I called out but was replied by the echos of my voice,I was alone.

Walked further in,past the counter, peering into the kitchen . The grill was on,grease sizzling. It was as if everyone had vanished in the middle of their meal.

A shiver ran down my spine.

Stepping back outside,I noticed the street was lined up with open doors, dark windows, clothes fluttering on a laundry lines and a rocking chair creaked on a porch. It was though the people left without looking back. The town wasn't abandoned it was left behind .

Something wasn't right .

Then in the eerie silence, I heard it _ a whisper just behind me.

I spun around . Nothing !. only the empty road stretching into the darkness.

I wasn't alone!!

And whatever was hear was watching me.
