The Train Ride That Changed Everything

"How a Chance Encounter on a Train Rekindled My Love for Storytelling"

By Henry TheodorePublished about a year ago 1 min read

I boarded the train that evening feeling utterly drained. It had been a long day of meetings, deadlines, and the usual chaos of life. All I wanted was to plug in my headphones and zone out.

But then, she sat across from me a woman in her late sixties, clutching an old leather-bound book. Her warm smile was impossible to ignore.

“You look like you could use a story,” she said, opening her book.

Curiosity won over exhaustion. “What kind of story?” I asked.

“The kind that finds you,” she replied cryptically.

And so, she began to read aloud. Her voice was steady, rich with emotion. The story was about a young boy who, against all odds, climbed a mountain to bring light to his village. But it wasn’t just the tale itself—it was the way she told it. Every word seemed to wrap around me like a blanket, melting away the stress of the day.

By the time she finished, I realized the train had reached its last stop. I looked around, confused. Where had the time gone?

“Stories are magic,” she said, closing the book. “They remind us that even in the darkest times, there’s always light.”

I never got her name, but that moment changed me. Now, every story I write is my way of bringing a little light to someone else’s journey.
