The soul shifter

Epic Beginnings

By Em EverheartPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Sometimes, I scrub my skin clean to the bone, determined to remove the black stains appearing like fingerprints. They never go away, no matter how hard I try.

I grew up on a small farm with people who were given the title "my family," tasked with two jobs: keeping me oblivious to my true potential and maintaining the unseen prison bars of the atmosphere.

They failed at both. They told me stories about the truth, teasing me and awakening a deep longing in my chest. At night, they tortured me with their pleasure, making sure I was too weak to escape.

One evening, as autumn leaves swirled down, I walked toward my dreadful home. For a moment, the sky turned a light pink. A mistake had been made, the prison bars of the planet had been lowered. Everyone felt a fleeting weightlessness and burning strength before the sky returned to its usual blue and everything went back to normal.

Except for me. My powers only needed that one-percent charge to last. I felt complete, sensing everyone’s energy, even down to the smallest creatures. Testing my newfound abilities, I switched to the person who had hurt me the most the one who loved to drag me down to the basement. Once in control, I severed his jewels and moved on to the others. It felt good until I saw the dark marks from my abuser appearing on every body I possessed. I had to either jump to another vessel or attempt to rid myself of the bruises.

The only way I can be free is to destroy this prison and reclaim my real self. Or at least so I hope.

Once I've taken over, you’re dead in seconds. So the question is, who will stop me from killing all of humanity?
