The Red Wedding is the Best Episode of Game of Thrones

This was the only episode in the entire series that truly shocked me.

This is one of the few episodes from a television show I will never forget the first time I watched it. I was looking forward to watching Game of Thrones for the day, and I waited to watch the show with a family member until the night. We were in complete shock once the episode ended, the two of us silent, not knowing what to say.

I love it when a TV show leaves me with such a strong impression.

The Red Wedding is one of the best pieces of television I have seen in a long time, and damn, it leaves you with this horrible feeling of dread.

During this episode, we get two of our main characters from the Stark family, who want to fight the Lannister's as revenge for the death of Ned Stark. Catelyn and Robb Stark are leading this rebellion, along with Robb's new wife, who is pregnant with his child. They are given a new alliance with the House of Frey, and they agree to have one of their allies marry a daughter from the Frey family. They attend the wedding, but Catelyn immediately notices that something is wrong.

She warns Robb, but she is too late, as the guards of the Frey family stab Robb's wife to death, and they proceed to slaughter the entire army. Toward the end of the episode, Catelyn threatens to kill the wife of Frey leader, to spare her son's life. Robb, who is now a broken man after his wife dies in his arms, calls out for his mother before he is stabbed in the heart.

Listening to Catelyn's cries of sorrow as she witnesses the death of her son was gut wrenching, I truly felt her pain in this moment. Then during her sorrow, she kills the leader's wife. She is then killed by one of the guards, as she stands there, shell shocked.

The episode ends with her body falling to the ground.

The fact that we got three major deaths in one episode was so unexpected, and I will never forget how I felt after watching this episode. The Red Wedding was episode 9, in season 3, and it's considered to be the best episode of the entire series.

I can't believe I had completely forgotten about these deaths. I had accidentally watched this clip years ago, and it just slipped my mind. I ended up watching the show years later, and it became one of my absolute favorites in television history.

This episode was executed perfectly, and I love how no mercy was given to no character in this episode. It was even worse when Arya Stark, one of the youngest siblings from the Stark family, had seen enough evidence to learn that her mother and brother were slaughtered.

The Red Wedding is a story with no hope. Three characters that we come to love, who are trying to lead the beginning of a rebellion to take down the Lannister's, are suddenly brutally killed, getting tricked by the same family that they had been determined to hunt down.

It's like the carpet was literally pulled from under my feet, leaving me with a dazed and confused expression as I tried to process what the hell just happened. These three deaths came out of complete nowhere, and I should have known that Game of Thrones was going to kill more people later. Ned Stark's death was the beginning of what to expect, but I was still shocked to see more of the Stark family get killed.

The Red Wedding is a brilliant episode, that showed no mercy to either the audience or our favorite characters.
