The Rabbit R1, a tech product that secured tens of millions in venture capital, has promised a lot and delivered very little. More concerning is the alleged scam behind it, which the founder seems eager to distance himself from. But before delving into the issues, let’s hear from the company itself.

“Hello everyone, I’m Jesse, the founder and CEO of Rabbit. This is the Rabbit R1. With R1, you can communicate, call rides, order food, and plan trips. It’s available for order now at Rabbit, with shipping set for Easter 2024.”

A typical tech pitch, complete with Apple-esque presentation. However, given the current date, Easter 2024 has long passed, and the product should be shipping by now. But before addressing the scam accusations, let’s see how the tech world is reacting to this AI assistant.

The initial reviews are harsh; YouTubers and tech enthusiasts criticize the product for being practically nonfunctional. From rideshare integrations failing to food orders being mishandled, Rabbit R1 has faced a slew of operational issues. Despite this, the bigger controversy lies in its foundation.

This company was previously known as Cyber Manufacturer Co, which ventured into the NFT space with a project called Gamma in 2021. They touted Gamma as an intersection of gaming, community ownership, and Web3. Despite this, Jesse now insists Rabbit has no ties to crypto or NFTs.

Jesse’s past involvement with Gamma paints a different picture. His promotion of the project as a revolutionary NFT initiative contrasts sharply with his current claims. Now, critics and former supporters alike are questioning where the funds raised for Gamma ended up. Jesse’s nonchalant dismissal of the Gamma project as a minor venture belies the substantial investment and promises made.

In an era where hype often overshadows substance, the saga of Rabbit R1 and Gamma serves as a cautionary tale. It highlights the importance of transparency and accountability, especially in consumer-facing tech businesses.
