The Ping-Pong Gentleman

1-40

By John BrucePublished about 11 hours ago 1 min read

In a men’s table tennis match, John and his opponent were going toe-to-toe, dead even.

With the score tied at 4-4, his opponent crushed a wicked smash. John stretched out to save it, but the ball nicked the underside of the table instead of landing fair.

The ball was flying so fast the ref blew the call and gave the point to John.

His opponent immediately waved to the ref, saying the ball hit the bottom edge — he should’ve gotten the point. And John straight up told the ref he didn’t earn the point either.

Replays showed the ball clearly clipped the underside. But for some reason, the ref stood by his call, and the crowd went wild.

Next it was the opponent’s serve.

And get this — John could’ve easily returned it, but he gently dumped the ball right into the net on purpose! He gave the point back with a intentional “suicide” shot, all to keep the game fair.

The crowd, who saw everything, erupted into thunderous applause. His opponent nodded at him, clearly grateful.

The TV commentator didn’t waste a second: he called John “The Ping-Pong Gentleman”!

And that’s the perfect name for him.

This kind of sportsmanship shows John’s total respect for his opponent, his unselfish defense of fair play, and his unbreakable integrity as a competitor.
