Once while I was gathering the pieces of a broken promise, I heard one of the pieces whispered to the rest and said:

"Every piece of broken promise is a mirror of a broken heart. For sure, we're the reflection of this man hurt."

"Though we're the reflection of his broken heart, we're not the lie which caused his hurt," said another piece. "We only push the lie far enough in the future to delay the inevitable discovery of its deceptions."

"Or maybe we were broken before we had left the tip of the tongue before we had reached the ears; maybe we were never meant to be whole but were only glued together by the imagination of the man," said a fourth piece.

"I bear no responsibility for the breaking of this man's heart; the blame belongs to the unformed hands of the future which lack a grip on reality, so they always lose the trust that man gives them to hold, causing the heart of man to constantly break," whispered a fifth piece.

"It's the man who's to be blamed for his own broken heart," whispered a sixth piece. "From his own lips I have heard many times that no one knows what the future holds, yet this fool gave the future his most precious belonging to hold--- his heart."

"How is it that man is the wisest of all creatures yet he's the only one foolish enough to tie his fate to the wind that comes from the tongue?" whispered seventh piece.

While they continued to whisper, I heard the knocking of new promises on the chambers of my heart. Though they bore resemblances of future disappointments and hurts, I opened my heart and let them in. For the heart needs something to put its hope in, even if that thing will never come to be.
