“Copy.”

The police officer, Algernon Cowten, looked like a pecan. He turned to his partner and asked. “Can you make toast, too?”

“I can not only make toast, I’ve got the butter and jam.”

“Goddamn, with a sharp tongue, too. You’re going to be alright with me.”

Then, a burst of gunfire rang out around them.

“Shots fired. Man—Machine down,” Cowten informed the dispatch.

“C’mon. I know you feel it. You’re going to survive.”

“I am programmed to fight,” Pulley 52 replied.

Though injured, Pulley 52 laid down fire.

“I see you,” Cowten fired back, too.

The machine survived anyway.
