The Office Chicken

When One Employee Took “Work from Home” a Bit Too Far

By Muhammad RafiqPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

INTRO

Narrator voice:

Everyone has that one weird coworker. But what if you were the weird coworker and didn’t even know it?

This is the story of Kevin—an average office worker… until one chicken turned his corporate life upside down.

CHAPTER 1: MEET KEVIN

Kevin was a mid-level accountant at a company called “Tax-i-Files Inc.”

He wasn’t exactly known for being exciting. In fact, he once received an employee award for “Most Consistent Use of the Photocopier.”

Kevin lived alone, had a pet cactus named Carl, and his biggest adventure was trying oat milk for the first time.

But everything changed on a rainy Tuesday.

CHAPTER 2: THE CHICKEN INCIDENT

On his way to work, Kevin saw a soggy cardboard box by a bus stop. It made a strange sound:

“Bawk.”

Inside was a shivering, very confused-looking chicken.

Kevin looked left.

Kevin looked right.

No one claimed it.

Naturally, he did what any socially awkward accountant would do…

He took it to work.

CHAPTER 3: THE OFFICE REACTION

Kevin walked into the office, chicken in arms, hoping to sneak it past reception.

Receptionist Janice raised an eyebrow:

“Is that your lunch… or your friend?”

Kevin panicked.

“This is… uh… my emotional support chicken.”

Janice didn’t blink.

“HR’s gonna love this.”

To everyone’s surprise, the chicken—whom Kevin had now named “Cluck Norris”—became a sensation.

Cluck sat calmly on Kevin’s desk all day.

He pecked at spreadsheets, pooped only once (miraculously on a manager’s chair), and clucked approvingly during meetings.

CHAPTER 4: GOING VIRAL

It didn’t take long.

An intern posted a TikTok of Cluck Norris titled:

“POV: You’re a chicken doing taxes.”

By the end of the day, it had over 2 million views.

By the end of the week, Cluck had his own Instagram.

By Friday, Cluck got more emails than Kevin.

Kevin was no longer "the photocopier guy."

He was now “The Chicken Whisperer.”

CHAPTER 5: HR STRIKES BACK

On Monday morning, Kevin was called into HR.

The HR manager, Martha, was known as “The Policy Panther.”

Martha didn’t smile. Ever.

She glared at Kevin and said,

“Mr. Thompson, we need to talk about the poultry.”

Kevin tried to explain Cluck’s calming effect on the office, how productivity had gone up, and how Cluck had finally gotten Steve from marketing to stop vaping indoors.

Martha nodded… and then said:

“Unfortunately, the chicken is a health code violation. He has to go.”

Kevin was devastated. Cluck had become more than a chicken. He was a colleague. A friend. An unpaid intern.

CHAPTER 6: THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE

That evening, Kevin made a decision.

He typed out his resignation letter. It read:

“Dear Management,

If the chicken goes, I go.

Sincerely,

Kevin & Cluck (co-authored)”

He walked out of the office the next morning, chicken under one arm, plant in the other, theme song from a sad movie playing in his AirPods.

CHAPTER 7: FOWL PLAY PAYS OFF

But here’s the plot twist.

Cluck Norris’s TikTok fame had caught the attention of a major startup: FeatherFi, a cryptocurrency company themed around birds.

They offered Kevin and Cluck a sponsorship deal.

Soon, Cluck was the official mascot for CluckCoin, and Kevin was making triple his old salary by filming short videos of his chicken pecking at a keyboard.

Kevin even got to appear on a morning talk show where the host asked,

“What’s next for Cluck?”

Kevin smiled and said,

“We’re working on a motivational book titled: ‘Don’t Just Cross the Road—Own It.’”

EPILOGUE: HAPPILY EVER AFTER (WITH FEATHERS)

Kevin and Cluck moved to a farm-style co-working space where chickens roamed free and Wi-Fi was strong.

Kevin never looked back.

Janice from reception still follows Cluck’s Instagram.

Steve from marketing still vapes indoors.

And HR? Let’s just say Martha now has her own pet goose… named Compliance.

Moral of the Story?

Never underestimate a man with a chicken…

Especially if the chicken has better social media engagement than your entire comp

This story's hilarious! I once brought in a unique 'office item' too. It didn't go as viral as Cluck, but it sure made our days more interesting.
