The New Foolishness of Moving Mountains

There was one wish that kept haunting Yugong's mind. After his 89th birthday, Yugong's wish became stronger and stronger.

Every morning, when he opened the door and saw the two big mountains towering above him, Yugong was disturbed. He had heard that the world outside the mountains was undergoing radical changes, and that young people were no longer clinging to the few acres of barren mountain land, but had gone to work in the big cities. However, after all, those who go out are a minority, and to enable everyone to get out of this small closed world, there must be a road. In order to repair the road, Yugong made several reports to the town government on behalf of the villagers, and also went to see the mayor in person several times to ask for the repair of the road out of the village, but the mayor always rejected it with very grand reasons.

In desperation, Yugong thought it was better to ask others than to ask himself. So Yugong had this wish in mind: to remove the two big mountains in front of his door.

On that day, Yugong gathered his family together for a family meeting, the theme of which was to move the mountains. Yugong spoke first: "You may have heard the slogan 'To get rich, first build a road.' I have an idea to eradicate these two huge mountains in front of my doorstep in my lifetime, for the benefit of the village and future generations. I wonder what you would like to do?"

The fool's son and daughter-in-law had long envied the wonderful world outside, and when they heard that they wanted to move the mountains and open up the road, they raised their hands in agreement without thinking. But Yugong's wife didn't take a position right away. Yugong asked, "Old companion, you see the children have agreed, what is your opinion?"

Only then did Yugo's wife speak up: "It is indeed a great thing to move mountains and build roads, but with our family's strength alone, I'm afraid we can't even handle a small mountain like Kui-Fu, so how can we level the two big mountains, Taihang and Wang-Yu? Yugong's family worked feverishly.

However, not long after, the mayor himself came to the door and called a halt. The mayor said, "Old man, you don't have to worry about moving the mountain anymore."

The mayor said, "Please don't worry, old man, we will open the tunnel and open the road."

Soon the engineering team sent by the mayor drove in with great enthusiasm. The project progressed quickly, and in less than six months the tunnel was opened and a wide asphalt road was built in front of Yugong's house. The Yugong family and the village people were overjoyed. There was just one thing Yugong didn't understand: How did the mayor suddenly make the move to build the road?

It was not until the end of the year that the mystery in Yugong's mind was solved.

That day, Yugong's grandson came home, and a dozen cars drove through the tunnel directly to Yugong's door. The grandson walked into the house surrounded by a large group of people, including the mayor of the town.

Only then did Yugong realize that his grandson had made it big and had become the mayor of the county.
