The Mysterious Room

It was a cold winter evening on the 1st of November when Rohit and his P.G roomies were having a cup of tea and gupshup in their room 402 at around 4 pm in the Shanti Apartments. They were a group of 5 friends namely Rohit, Rohan, Aryan , Mohit, Chirag who had come to Kota to prepare for their IIT-JEE studies. They had just shifted to that room 8 months ago. They were planning to hangout that night as they had finished their major tests known as M.T which was equivalent to college final exams.

All boys putting up their suggestions to make their night more of fun and memorable. Rohan suggested “Let’s go to the cinema and watch the latest movie ”. Rohit interrupted “No, No i dont want to waste this night by sitting on a chair for 3 hours and watching that romantic film” . Aryan then commented “ How about watching a thriller in the room itself, Rohit” .Rohit agreed by telling that he wont mind watching a thriller .Mohit and Chirag were still not satisfied and were constantly giving a bored look to each other. Then suddenly there was a brightening sparkle on Mohit’s face . Mohit discussed his plan with Chirag and then both came up with a suggestion “ We both will agree to join you guys on 1 condition that if we could hangout that night somewhere outside the room after we are done with the thriller .Rohit , Rohan and Aryan agreed with no option left with them.

Finally it was 9 pm , all of the boys were excited ,turning off all the lights , drawing off all the curtains and all took their seats with a bowl of popcorn. The horror film started and all of them staring at the screen , seemed as if their eyeballs would pop out. All of them took a deep breath during the 2 minute interval in the movie. Rohit went to the kitchen to drink water and suddenly he heard a voice from the bathroom , opposite the kitchen as if someone had left the tap open and a bucket under it. The sound was turning out to be shriller and shriller so Rohit rushed to the bathroom to close the tap and guess what he saw ? He saw that all taps were closed and all the buckets were put upside down . This worried Rohit , he called all his friends and told them about this incident but no on believed him . Rohan said “ the horror film has got into your head , its better you go to sleep now”. Mohit and Chirag giggled. Aryan did not speak anything at the moment as he was not able to jump to any conclusions at the moment. All of them again resumed the horror film. It was 11:40 pm , suddenly the climate around became windy and ligthening struck the sky . This acted as a catalyst in fearing Rohit and was building up to the thrilling night of the boys.

Finally the film ended at 12:00 am and as per the habit of enthusiastic people , Rohan and Aryan started discussing about the plot and the creative writing of the movie directors and writers , while Rohit was silent and the bathroom incident was still running in his head. Mohit and Chirag were discussing about where would they go to hangout at 12 midnight.

When they asked for the suggestions, Rohit replied “ sorry guys i wont be coming with you’ll today as i am not feeling mentally well” . Aryan suggested that it would be better if he and Rohan stays back with Rohit. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Mohit and Chirag agreed to go alone on a nightwalk to the nearby Canary road.

Mohit and Chirag started their walk on the lonely Canary street where no one walked by after 7 pm . Poor kids unknown of this fact walked slowly and smoothly with the only noises being of the dry leaves under their footwear. Meanwhile in room 402, Rohan found a chit under his pillow telling “ Order a Chocolate cake with fully loaded pineapple with a writing Happy Birthday Aayushi on it from the nearby cake shop , The Bakers .” Rohan looked at Rohit thinking that theres something strange happening in this room today. He told this to Rohit and Aryan , which scared Rohit and made Aryan more alert about the suspicios activity happening in here.

Meanwhile, Mohit and Chirag were having their gala time and they came across ‘The Bakers’ . The only shop which was lit and opened on such a late night. These 2 boys visited the shop and after going through the menu they decided to have the Chocolate cake loaded with pineapples of which only a single piece was left . The shopkeeper denied telling that this cake is reserved and specially baked for a room in Shanti Apartments. This made Mohit and Chirag more curious about knowing more as they lived in the same apartment. Shopkeeper continued that it is booked for room 402. This made Mohit and Chirag confused and happy. Happy because that 1 unique piece was booked for their room and confused because Rohit is not well , Aryan and Rohan stayed back to give him some moral support so why would they order this cake.

Meanwhile in room 402, Rohan and Aryan decided to not overthink on the chit and tear it and throw it.

Meanwhile at ‘The Bakers’ , the shopkeeper investigated that what were the boys doing on this street at 12:20 midnight . The boys replied they were just hanging out as their exams were over. The shopkeeper yelled “ You both have made a terrible mistake , God save them .” and no sooner these words left the shopkeeper’s mouth than Chirag started feeling drowsy and and he felt unconscious in the shop itself . This worried Mohit and left him in a doubt that Chirag was well and talking to them , what happened suddenly that he fainted . On the back of his mind did run a thought that why did the shopkeeper tell us we did a mistake coming to the Canary Street at midnigth . On the other hand he thought why did his roomies order a cake.These all thoughts had cluttered Mohit’s mind and was struggling to get a solution out of all this. He calls up Aryan and tells him about the entire conversation between them and the shopkeeper and about the current state of Chirag ,which kept Aryan puzzled , Aryan passes on the information to the other 2 boys which kept all in a mode of suspense and thrill .
