Darren had never believed in the supernatural. He was a man of logic, someone who preferred the certainty of science over the enigma of myths and legends. But everything changed on the night of the full moon.

It began like any other evening. He finished work, grabbed a quick meal, and settled in his small apartment with a book. Outside, the world seemed quiet and peaceful. The night sky was clear, casting a silvery light over the city. It felt calm. It felt ordinary.

Until it wasn’t.

The First Change

At 11:42 PM, Darren felt it. A strange, tingling sensation began creeping up from his feet. His body trembled involuntarily, and a wave of heat surged through his veins. It was unlike anything he had ever felt before. His heart raced, pounding against his chest as if trying to escape.

"What's happening to me?" he muttered, clenching his fists. His muscles stiffened, and his skin felt like it was on fire. The room around him started to spin, and for a moment, he thought he might faint.

Then, a sudden, sharp pain shot through his spine. It felt like his bones were stretching, cracking, and rearranging. He gritted his teeth, his body contorting as if trying to break free from itself.

Moonlight flooded through the window, casting a cold, pale glow on everything it touched. Darren tried to resist the change, but it was futile. The pain became unbearable, and in moments, his human form vanished. In its place stood a massive, orange-and-black striped tiger, panting in his apartment, its eyes wide with confusion and fear.

Torment in the Beast's Body

At first, Darren was bewildered by what had happened. His mind remained his own, yet it was confined within the body of a monstrous creature. He could sense the primal instincts of the tiger clawing at his consciousness, compelling him to hunt, to chase, to dominate. The sheer power in his limbs was overwhelming, and the animalistic urges were impossible to resist.

But Darren resisted. He attempted to scream, but only a growl emerged from his throat. He tried to move, yet his claws scraped against the hardwood floor in a way that felt both terrifying and exhilarating. He was ensnared in this body, unable to exert control over it.

The most agonizing aspect wasn’t the transformation itself—it was the torment of being acutely aware of everything around him while being powerless to intervene.

His senses were heightened beyond anything he had ever known. The faintest sound—an insect crawling on the wall—was magnified in his mind. His eyes could pierce the darkness with clarity, every detail sharp and vivid. He could detect the slightest traces of food in the air, feel the vibrations of the street outside, and hear the distant hum of the city, like a heartbeat beneath his feet.

But it was the hunger that frightened him the most. His stomach growled—no, roared—with an animal's relentless craving for food, for meat. His body instinctively prowled the apartment, circling, sniffing, searching. He couldn’t help it. His human thoughts and emotions were trapped, screaming inside a body that felt foreign.

The First Kill

By the time dawn broke, Darren had lost all control. The hunger had consumed him, and all he could think about was satisfying it. In his tiger form, he left his apartment, moving into the dark streets with a speed and stealth he had never experienced before. The city was silent, everyone tucked safely inside their homes, oblivious to the beast that prowled the alleys. Then, he spotted it: a stray cat, thin and terrified, rummaging through a trash can. Darren’s instincts ignited. The tiger within him surged forward, and before he could stop himself, he pounced. The cat never stood a chance. At that moment, as he sank his teeth into the tender flesh, a wave of satisfaction washed over him. But it was a hollow victory. The shame, the disgust, the horror of what he had just done flooded his mind. He had become the very thing he feared—an animal, a predator.

The Struggle to Return to Normal

When the first rays of dawn crept across the sky, Darren felt it again—the shift, the reversal. His bones cracked and reformed, his fur vanished, and he found himself lying on the cold concrete in his human form once more. His hands trembled as he stood up, his body aching in every conceivable way. The memories of the tiger’s actions were seared into his mind, and he could still taste the blood in his mouth. His stomach churned with both hunger and revulsion. He stumbled back to his apartment, his mind racing. What had happened to him? What was this curse? He needed answers, but where could he find them? Who would believe him? Every full moon after that, Darren transformed into the tiger once more. Each time, the change was more violent, more terrifying. He was losing control, piece by piece.

with each passing night. The tiger was gaining the upper hand.

As the full moon approached once more, Darren sensed the impending change, like a tide pulling him beneath the surface.

The Madness Grows

The months that followed blurred together. Darren exhausted every option he could think of to halt the transformations. He consulted doctors, therapists, and every specialist he could find. They insisted he was stressed, that he was hallucinating, or that he was simply mentally unstable. Yet none of their explanations resonated with him.

He started to withdraw, distancing himself from friends and his former life. His work began to suffer, and his relationships fell apart. No matter what he tried, the tiger remained, lurking, waiting for the next full moon.

His apartment turned into a prison. The walls that once provided solace now felt confining. The moonlight, which had once symbolized beauty, transformed into a reminder of his suffering. Each night, as the moon ascended, Darren could feel the transformation slithering up his spine, poised to tear him apart.

The Final Night

On the night of the last full moon, Darren devised a plan. He could no longer endure this existence. He couldn’t keep fighting; he was losing the war.

He took a knife and settled by the window, waiting. The moonlight flooded the room with its pale glow, and Darren felt the familiar tremors coursing through his body. The heat, the tingling, the pain—all of it surged in like a tempest.

He tightened his grip on the knife. If he could just end it all—the curse, the torment... Perhaps then he would finally be free.

But just as the change began, something within him broke. He caught a glimpse of himself, the tiger, in the window—his own eyes staring back, wild and fierce. And for the first time, Darren felt no fear. He felt no disgust. He felt... acceptance.

The tiger was no longer his enemy. It was a part of him.

The knife slipped from his fingers as the transformation took hold. The beast within him roared, and Darren let it. He stopped resisting the animal. He welcomed it.

As the moonlight illuminated the city, a man and a tiger coexisted in the same body, no longer at odds with one another.

The Beast Inside

The next morning, the city awoke to the aftermath of a killing spree that left everyone baffled. Police discovered the bodies of several animals, mangled and torn apart, their fur strewn across the streets. But Darren had vanished, leaving only a trail of paw prints leading into the woods.

They never found him. Some say he’s still out there, somewhere—half man, half beast—haunting the night, eternally cursed to dwell in the shadows, a prisoner of the moon.

And as for Darren? He’s finally free. Free from his human mind, free from his tormented soul. Because, after all, a tiger doesn’t wrestle with its identity—it simply lives.
