The Merchant of Dreams

A short story

By Karan w. Published about a year ago 2 min read

Clara slipped on the snow-covered road and reached Uncle Calmon's only shop on a small, narrow street. This was the only shop in the town where anyone could buy a dream. But in exchange for that dream, he had to pay a price to Uncle Calmon. But whoever came to Uncle Calmon's shop once would disappear after that. So there was a rumor in the whole town that all those people had gone to their dream world. It is useless to search for them, they will never be found again.

As soon as she reached there, Clara hid her half-eaten apple in her coat pocket. She said to Uncle Calmon smilingly, "I want to buy a beautiful dream."

"You are welcome dear," said Uncle Calmon with a smile. "But I am sorry, all the dreams are sold out today, so I have only one left. You have no choice. You have to buy that one dream, or you can come again tomorrow." "No, give me the one dream you have," replied Clara eagerly.

Uncle Calmon opened his dusty cupboard and took out a golden and shiny jar. In which a dream was floating. He carefully handed the jar into Clara's hands.

"What price will I have to pay for this Dream?" said Clara.

Uncle Calmon looked seriously into her eyes and said with a smile. "Every dream comes at the price of a memory." I will take all your precious memories.

Then Uncle Calmon raised his fingers in the air, and Clara felt as if the golden light was being pulled out of her eyes. And all her precious and sweet memories were taken away from Clara's eyes. Now there was no good memory in Clara's heart. The jar was in her hand, but now there was a huge emptiness residing inside her. She took her jar and walked away from there with slow steps sadly. Uncle Calmon was still smiling.

After that day Clara disappeared, she was born as a princess in the kingdom of apples, according to the dream floating in that jar. But all the princess' memories were bad. She had lost all her sweet and precious memories. That is why the princess' life was full of sorrow and sadness, "because her mother died just after her birth. And in her past life, she lost all her precious memories, which were related only to her mother.

But maybe Clara was not the only one, who was living in the dream world with an empty heart. After losing all her precious and lovely memories.

Uncle Calmon was the only person left in the town, Still waiting For someone to come to buy a dream from him.

Beautiful ❤ I would've rather kept my memories; Instead of selling them for that dream. Memories can make life heaven if good and living hell if bad. Still, I feel good and bad both memories teach us a lot. This is a moralful one, dear brother 🤝❤

Excellent story. With a great lesson. Dreams and memories go hand in hand.

I really like the storytelling in this piece, a dream doesn’t mean anything without the good memories that leads to your motivations. Quite interesting.

Good storytelling, but watch your use of quotation marks in the final paragraph. And you don't have to indent and italicize to whole thing.
