Every morning, Yusuf opened his small café a few minutes before sunrise. The place was quiet, almost forgotten, and Yusuf never dreamed of becoming rich. All he wanted was peace… and his favorite chair by the window.
In the same corner every day, an elderly woman would sit alone. She always ordered a single cup of coffee and placed a small white envelope on the table. She never opened it. Never gave it to anyone. She would leave it there, finish her coffee, and quietly walk away.
A whole month passed, and Yusuf noticed the same envelope again and again. Sometimes he moved it while cleaning, but he never touched it otherwise. Curiosity slowly grew inside him, yet something held him back.
One rainy morning, the woman didn’t come.
Yusuf waited the next day… then a week… then another month.
One calm afternoon, while cleaning, he found the envelope on the floor beneath the table. His heart beat faster as he picked it up. This time, he opened it.
The letter was written in shaky handwriting:
“If you are reading this, it means I can no longer come.
I sit here every day because this café is where I once met the love of my life.
We promised to meet again, every morning, even if only in memory.
Thank you for keeping this place warm when the world felt cold.”
Yusuf folded the letter slowly. That day, he placed the envelope in a small frame and hung it near the window.
From that moment on, the café was never empty again.
