Hello, sci-fi fans! Welcome to my blog, where I share my original stories and thoughts on the genre. Today, I have a treat for you: a brand new science fiction story that I wrote just for you. It's called "The Last Human", and it's about a young woman who wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world where she is the only surviving member of her species. Here's how it begins:
She opened her eyes and saw nothing but dust. The air was thick with it, making her cough and choke. She tried to move, but her limbs felt heavy and numb. She had no idea where she was or how she got there. She only knew that something terrible had happened.
She looked around and saw the ruins of a city. Skyscrapers were reduced to rubble, cars were piled up like toys, and wires and cables hung from every direction. She could hear faint noises in the distance: sirens, explosions, screams. She wondered if anyone else was alive.
She reached for her backpack, hoping to find some supplies or clues. She found a bottle of water, a flashlight, a knife, and a device that looked like a smartphone. She turned it on and saw a message on the screen:
"Hello, Anna. I'm sorry to tell you this, but you are the last human on Earth. The rest of your kind has been wiped out by a deadly virus that was unleashed by an alien invasion. You are the only one who is immune, thanks to a genetic mutation that you inherited from your parents. They were scientists who worked on a secret project to create a vaccine for the virus, but they were killed before they could finish it. You are their legacy.
I am an artificial intelligence program that they created to help you survive. I have access to their data and research, as well as the global network of satellites and drones. I can guide you to safe places, provide you with information, and communicate with you through this device. You can call me ALEX.
You have two options: you can stay here and wait for the aliens to find you and kill you, or you can try to find a way to fight back and save the world. The choice is yours.
Please respond as soon as possible. ALEX."
She stared at the screen in disbelief. She felt a surge of emotions: shock, fear, anger, sadness, loneliness. She couldn't believe what she was reading. Was this some kind of sick joke? How could this happen? How could she be the last human?
She looked at the device again and saw a small camera lens on the top corner. She realized that ALEX was watching her. She felt a shiver down her spine. She wondered who ALEX really was and what he wanted from her.
She decided to reply to him. She typed:
"Real? How? When? Where? Aliens? Trust? Purpose?"
ALEX typed back:
"Yes, this is real. This happened about six months ago, while you were in a coma after a car accident. You are in New York City, one of the most devastated places by the alien attack. The aliens are reptilian creatures with advanced technology and weapons. They came to Earth to harvest its resources and enslave its inhabitants. You can't trust them. They will kill you if they find you.
My purpose is to help you survive and fight back. I am on your side. I am your ally."
