The Last Tenant of Greystone Flat

Some flats echo more than footsteps

By Brian HenPublished 7 months ago 2 min read

A tenant in a London flat kept hearing footsteps in the attic above — until it was discovered the building had no attic.

A locked journal, a hidden room, and a record of one woman who never officially lived there.

Some homes remember everything.

👷“There is no attic.”

Tenants from Flat 3B, Greystone Terrace, reported strange nighttime disturbances: pacing, whispers, and dragging noises — all from the ceiling above their bedroom.

Contractor Darren Kell was dispatched. He reported no attic existed above the unit. Building plans confirmed it. Imaging scans found no space between ceiling and roof.

So what — or who — was making the noise?

“If you hear her, do not respond.”

To whom it may concern,

If you hear her, do not respond. She doesn’t like people speaking back.

She just wants you to know she’s still there.

But if you find the key — burn it.

Do not open the box.

Tell my brother I’m sorry. Tell him it wasn’t his fault.

— M.

This letter was found inside a wall cavity sealed with bricks behind an old wardrobe in 3B.There was no official tenant by the name “M.” on record.

[Tenant Interview Excerpt – March 2022]

“It was like someone lived above me.”

“It started as footsteps. Every night at 2 or 3 a.m. Then knocking. Tapping. Dragging.”

“I thought someone was squatting in the attic — until they told me there wasn’t one.”

The tenant also reported cold spots in the hallway, waking up with scratches on her arms, and a deep fear of the bedroom ceiling.

The Forgotten Fall

“A woman reportedly jumped from the third-floor window of Greystone Terrace. Witnesses said she ‘spoke to the ceiling’ and often begged it to stop watching her. No name was released.”

No obituary. No photo. No confirmed burial. As if she never existed — except in whispers.

The Box That Shouldn’t Be Opened

“I found a small wooden box under the floorboards of Flat 3B. Locked tight. Old, heavy.”

“The key was inside the ceiling vent. Wrapped in cloth with a Latin warning: ‘Non te respicias’ — Don’t look at her.”

I opened it.

Hair. Teeth. A diary.

And now… I can’t sleep.

[Diary Entry – Unknown Woman – 1922]

“Let me down.”

“She calls me by name.”

“She knocks every night — three short, two long.”

“I translated it. It’s Morse code.”

‘Let me down.’”

Evidence Missing. Fear Remains.

Urban explorer admitted for trauma, exhaustion, and hallucinations.

Box sent to forensics.

Reported lost two weeks later. Case closed without further comment.

No images of the contents were ever publicly released.

📍 Still Vacant. Still Knocking.

Flat 3B has been empty since May 2022.

Renovations stripped it bare. Yet workers still report hearing footsteps and knocking — now coming from below.

Some tenants claim the sounds are no longer pacing above…

…but crawling under the floorboards.
