The Last Meeting

Lost Love

By Afia SikderPublished 10 months ago 3 min read

The Most Recent Event The Beginning:

Lost Love In the soft glow of the evening, Niloy sat in an old café in Kolkata. His cup of coffee had been cold for some time, but he was lost in thought as he stared at the glass window. He had been waiting for someone, Trishna, for many years. Ten years earlier, on a rainy afternoon, he had last seen Trishna. Despite the fact that their love had never truly faded, their relationship had ended due to circumstances. They would never forget each other, even if they took different paths in life. They had decided to meet one more time today. But would this truly be their final meeting?

A torrent of memories Trishna hesitated at the café door for a few moments. Her heart was pounding, and her palms were sweaty. After all these years, it was hard to face Niloy. She finally entered and immediately focused on Niloy as she entered. Time seemed to stand still for a moment. Niloy spoke softly, "Trishna... " Trishna gave a wry grin, but she still had a tear in her eye. “How have you been, Niloy?

After a brief pause, Niloy responded, "Even after all these years, it feels like you never really left." Why Meet Again?

Their conversation slowly wandered back through the past. The years they spent together, including college and that fateful evening when they parted ways. “Could we have saved our love, Niloy?” Trishna whispered. “Could we have held on?”

Niloy exhaled. "Occasionally, our circumstances are more powerful than our will." But I know one thing—we never truly stopped loving each other.”

Trishna looked away for a moment. "Then why were you interested in meeting today?" Niloy hesitated before speaking. “Because I know both of us are about to start new chapters in our lives. I wanted to say my final goodbye to our story in person. Fate's Turning Trishna's eyes welled up with tears. She realized that this meeting was not just a friendly goodbye but a closure to all the unspoken words of the past.

"Niloy, do you ever wonder what our story would have been like if we had handled things differently?" Niloy grinned. “Maybe we would still be together. Maybe our story would have taken a different turn.”

A severe storm began outside at that exact moment. The wind blew away the chairs from the café’s outdoor seating. In a flash of lightning, their faces lit up for a moment.

“My train leaves in an hour,” Trishna said.

Niloy remained silent for a moment before asking, “So, is this truly the last time we’ll see each other?”

The End or a New Beginning?

Trishna stood up. "I'm not sure. Niloy, perhaps our love will never truly end. Maybe one day, somewhere, at some time, we’ll be together again.”

Niloy reached out his hand. It was tightly held by Trishna. In their eyes, there was a quiet understanding—as if words were unnecessary because their hearts had already spoken everything.

Trishna made her way to the door. However, her phone rang suddenly. She looked at the screen, and her expression changed instantly.

Niloy observed her reaction and inquired, "What happened?" With a trembling voice, Trishna replied, “My train… it derailed… many people are injured.”

Niloy slowly stood up. They gave each other a look, wondering if fate had just given them another chance. An Infinite Love Trishna came to the realization that this was never going to be their last meeting. Perhaps they were truly meant to be together. “So now?” Niloy whispered.

“Maybe our story isn't over yet,” Trishna said, holding his hand tightly. A soft smile appeared on Niloy’s lips. Outside, the storm had subsided. Stars were now everywhere in the sky. Some loves never die. Even when they were meant to end, some relationships manage to restart. Perhaps their story was one of those.

In the air, one word lingered—love.
