A middle school boy named George Warren is tired, angry lovesick and wanting to get out of eighth grade. He is beginning to grow tired of his sometimes rude, mad and ignoring twin brother Julius. His older sister is his favorite sibling but he hadn’t seen or spoken to her in over a year.
George’s eighth grade class is unlike any other which is mad loud and not wanting to learn. Not helping his case is that they don’t like him. A certain one who has never liked anyone in the whole school or anyone else. He doesn’t like his own family or the supposed friends he has. His name is Francis and he is known for getting into fights with other students and taking their lunch. He usually gets into fights on the school bus. The bus driver who spoke with a thick accent told him to sit down or he will get a write up.
He ended up choosing to fight George who was just minding his own business. Out of nowhere, francis walked over to him and threw a punch at him. The bus stops and the two were wrestling on each other with George losing his balance and falling. Francis continues to punch him until a few students pull him off. George manages to throw a swift kick to Francis’ knee. George almost had a broken nose and when he went home, he told his mother what happened.
George was doing math homework which he didn’t like doing. He already had a hard time at school with a teacher yelling at him, being rejected, getting him with dodgeballs in gym class at random and not being appreciated by those around. On the Monday morning the week after, after the bus picks up Francis, he throws paper balls at George all the way from his seat. He got mad so he went to fight him. All of George's book fell out of his backpack due to Francis taking it and throwing it on the ground. This would get him a write up and suspended for a week.
George felt that no one wanted to help and was pushed too far by almost everybody. He needed someone to talk to about dealing with francis and the whole school. A couple of weeks later back on the bus, Francis went back to insulting George but in the worst way possible, with everybody on the bus watching. George would speak up against it, but it ends up turning into a shouting match between the two. Francis walks over to George and punches him. But George's rage against him caused him to strike back hard. George punched him so hard he had a few cuts on his face while George himself had a half bloody nose. Later Francis was given another write up.
The next morning George and his mother sat in a meeting to discuss the issue with the principal. They were in there before Francis and his mother were to be called in to discuss his behavior and the problems he caused in the whole six months. After George finished talking to the principal, she called Francis and his mother into the office. They were not happy with him or his antics. Several school officials had a meeting about what to do about the situation. Because of his new record, he is told that the next write up he gets on the bus will result in suspension and he will not graduate.
So a couple of weeks later, there was no more trouble coming from Francis as he thought about graduating. Then came graduation and George walked on stage with his class. On the last day of school, he noticed that Francis did not show up. Only half of the students went to school. As George looked into his yearbook, he had tried to get rid of the memory of the trouble he faced since the beginning of the year.
Ten years later George had got married to his girlfriend Carmen. Francis, however, was living by himself and was drinking during the late evenings. He finds a letter written by one of his old classmates, reminding him of what he had put everybody through all those years. He exits the house and drives off in his car as it is raining. While he is driving, he approaches a bridge but the car slips off the road and crashes off the side and into the water. A week later, everybody including George attended the funeral to pay their respects.
