A short story

Walking around the lake, I stumbled along the rocky shoreline. The large rocks made it very difficult to walk around the gorgeous lake. The fluffy, white clouds reflected in the lake, and I took the view all in. It was breathtaking. The ripples in the water made me want to take a swim. I hesitated on that thought though as I did not have my swim suit along with me. I inhaled deeply, the smell of the lake water and the fresh greenery was intoxicating. It was beautiful. I gazed at the scene before me and noticed the house on the shoreline.

I wanted to peer into the house nearby, I wondered what their lives were like. They must be pretty well off if they were living on a lake. I pondered for a bit and allowed my brain to imagine what kind of lives they had. Maybe they had children. Maybe it was just a single person’s house made with hard earned cash. Maybe, just maybe, nobody lived there at all. I could tell by the state of the house that it was most likely never the case. It was a deep blue, with a white painted door and framed windows. Still, I wondered about their lives and the stories that the house itself could tell.

I decided to sit upon a rock and just stare at the scene before me. I kept fixating on the clouds reflecting on the water. I wondered if this is what heaven was like, living in the clouds. I shivered even though I wasn’t cold. I hope that whatever it is, heaven is a lovely place.

I hope it has rivers and streams, too...
